Well Carole and I were talking birds the other day and I thought I wouldpost their pictures here to share with everyone...............see I do have other things in my life besides my tank!;)

This is Walter with his blue and gold macaw Indigo, she is as rotton as the day is long and she absolutely loves him, definitely "his" bird. She hates me because I make her do things like lay on her back and hang upside down, her daddy is a big push over!

This is my african Grey Tricky, his name is Tricky because he goes up to strangers like he is going to be nice and then he bites them. Tricky is definitely my bird, he regurgatates for me and everything! I have never met a bird that is soo entertaining!

This is Walters rose breasted cockatoo Wickey. He flew to California to get her. She hass "deformed" feet, two toes one each foot go the wrong way, but it doenst effect her personality, just her ability to hold her food in her foot and eat, so she eats over the bowl. She loves everyone except small kids, they move too fast for her. She has alot to say, but we just dont know whats shes saying, most of it sounds like wikey wikey wikey, hence her name. Her favorite past time is running across the bed and flipping her self over and screaming.

This is Astro my sun conure. He loves anyone who will hold him. Hes a complete clown, but his screams can be ear piercing.

This is Chewy, we actually got him from someone on Reef Central. He is a sweet bird and just enjoys sitting on your shoulder. He bonded so much with my cousin when he was here that he now resides with him. He prefers to be in a one bird home.

The white bird sitting with Walter is my sulfer crested cockatoo Whisper. She is a very sweet bird to me and Walter, but doesnt really like anyone else. She plucks her feathers. I think she needs medication, because her she will take anything she can pick up and ballance it on he back. Her favorite toy is a rolled up magizine to read, she shreads off a piece, balls it up in her beak, scratches her cheek with her foot and tosses the balled up piece over her head. She does this over and over, it is like a ritual. Needless to say she is a little strange, but we love her anyway.

So, theres the biography of my birds!!

Awesome pics Val, they are all so different! :D
Here is Sheba. This was when I first got her, she looks much better now. I need to take new pics!

I LOVE how communal your birds are with your cats... i think seeing that speaks volumes about how good an owner is to his\her pets in that they can take the time to make harmoney in their house with so many differenct species :) thats so awesome.

And yeah, if I see a conure that even looks like it can make noise, i run the other way.

Carole what a beautiful macaw :) I think I would be scared of big birds.. but then again you're the one with a puppy that pierced your ear so maybe the birds are more behaved :)

These types of birds should really be left in the wild. It is very sad to see these birds as pets.

J/K, i love the shots of your birds, i wish i could have one but i dont have enough time to spend with them. Once again awesome pics.

I have never posted on ORCA before but have been lurking for a few weeks now. I belong to NFMAS just not to much action on the boards. Beautiful birds no problem w/them not getting along w/each other??

I really do not like birds much at all...always chirping and sqwaking and pooping wherever they happen to be...but they are so beautiful. They are so cool, but I could never see myself owning one. I'm also allergic to cats, so none of them for me, either.

beautiful colors, beautiful birds, and very nice pictures, by the way. I'll stick to my ferrets and fishies. I don't know what it is with me, I just love those stinky little buggers...

Meet
top left corner:
Angel, my blaze panda boy(head of the household). I got him as a baby and he has been the greatest family member I could ever ask for. He sleeps on my stomach when I hold him and he will stay there for hours when I let him.

The whole right side:
Snowball, my pudgy little light silver mitt(sweetest girl in the whole wide world). I adopted her a 1 year old and she gives kisses like nobody's business. She can literally go on doing that until you make her stop.

The little girl right under Angels head:
Nipsy, my tiny little medium silver mitt girl(The biter that hates all ferrets and all humans except for me and the others). She is still special to me

The centerpiece of this artwork:
And last, but definitely not least, Cracker, the dark-eyed white boy...rest in peace. He and nipsy came to me at the same time. They were both over 6 years old and he was diagnosed with adrenal gland disease. By the time I got him(find out a month later on an annual check-up) there was no chance of operation. He passed about a year ago and she's still alive and biting.

If anyone is wondering, they were just waking up...they used to sleep together like this in a drawer under my bed all the time. Cracker has since passed and the others have been relocated to a cage so that I can see and play with them more often.

Thanks. I love those little food processing plants...that's pretty much the full extent of their day. Eat, rest, poop, repeat.

i think ferrets are cute but they stink-i could never handle it.

Love the birds-they are very cute.
she also has praire dogs-i thought they were coolest thing!

Thanks everyone!!.

chrisstie, they have to live in harmony in order to live here, we just have way too many for them not to get along! But we found out recently that cats need to really be kept away from birds because they carry a deadly bacteria to birds in their mouths. So the cats can now admire the birds from a distance!

sytanek, your welcome! I didnt mean to come across as unfriendly, but we were getting ready to get in the shower to go see Carole. Next time we will definitely have to chat!

bluecarpet, its funny you shoud say that though, me and Walter have this discussion all the time because he hates to see them in cages. In Austrailia Cockatoos are actually a nusience, they call the rose breasteds "pink pigeons" and they are killed in droves because they are considered a pest. She is much safer in my home. Just a little useless info for you guys.

racerw, Welcome!!! For the most part they get along, if one bird gets too close to another and he doesnt want her there, he usually moves to another cage or space. Tell us more about your self and that cute puppy in your avitar!

cschweitzer, Very cute, I love the way they conform to fit into a small space! We had a really cute ferrit named Kit Kat ,he would come running if you rang a bell , and he would "kill" anything that had a squeaker in it. Sadly we lost him about 2 years ago. Unfortunately because of how many animals we do have, a ferrits scent is too much for my small house.

pixiegirlie, they really are great pets, my very old and rickety Bucky used to race you to the bed so he could snuggle with you and he was just like a dog if you stopped petting him, he would nudge your hand so you would keep going. My female Blaze is a whole nother story, she like to rearrange things in the house, she usually takes everything from the bathroom garbages and moves it to the cat litter pans and sets up house. When we had a crate for our Doberman, she used to set up house in there, my dobie used to come in the room and tell on her.

Sheesh, I could go on and on about my animals!

awsome birds, my mother has had a moluccan for about 12 years....She loves it, but I think its a spawn of satan lol. to loud for me.

Yea i thought i would add a little comedy to the thread, i would do it in the whole thing about collecting things from the wild but i decided not to, probably a good choice. But i love those birds, so do you really have praire dogs? If so please post pics, i would love to have one of those, do you know where i can get one?

Wow, Val...just gorgeous! Walter has great taste! That pink breasted bird is amazing! There is certainly a gorgeous mix here with everyone's pets. Sheba is magnificent! And Craig, those guys are sooo cute!!!

Here are two of my recent babies:
Prickles (RIP...I had her about 6 years. She was a rescue I took in when she was about a year old. She used to love to curl up in my pocket:
Pricklesone.jpg

Pinocchio: Another rescue. He was about the size of your hand when some kids in the environmental club I used to run brought him to me. He has a fishing hook through his mouth and couldn't open it to eat. He was all but dead when they brought him to me. We cut out the hook, and nursed him back. He is now about a foot long and lives in a 3,500 gallon pond in my backyard that we put in especially for him. I've had him about 8 years now. This is when he was smaller and still fit in a tank. He outgrew 4 of them before we did the pond:

Thanks, CBoyswife. I loved working with those kids (12 years). Pinocc was just one of many rescues I experienced over the years. The kids were so worried about him! I worked at a middle school and between classes my office would be packed with kids checking on him to make sure he was still alive, eating and getting better. He was quite the campus celebrity for a long time. Very sweet indeed. There is sooo much good in today's youth. Each year at Christmas "my kids" would collect hundreds of pounds of pet foods, blankets, etc. to donate to local shelters to help with the influx of unwanted pets often purchased for presents then given up after the holiday (this is one of the busiest times of year at shelters). It's a shame that most of what were hear about is the negative stuff the news chooses to inundate us with everyday.

Walater says "He knows" Hes such a smart ***!!
Prickles is too cute ( RIP) When pets curl up in pockets it is the best way for them to bond with you.
Pinocchio is beautiful, what kind of turtle is he? He is very lucky to have a "safe home" You wouldnt believe how many people I have faught with when stopping for a turtle in the road, they want to EAT them! Have you ever heard of such a thing?!?!?!?
I only have one picture on my computer of Blaze, I will take more tommrow
Also, I have had the best pocket pets in my opinion, Flying Squirrels. This was my last one, we sold hime because my boss said I couldnt bring him to work with me anymore and it was too hard to have him out at home because the cats REALLY wanted to eat him.

Heres a close up of Blaze

Bluecarpet, I have an email address for someone out of state who sometimes has babies.
Unfortunately, alot of times the ways these guys are caught are with a septic truck and they are sucked out of their burrows, it sometimes causes damage, but there are people who take them in and "domesticate" the healthy ones and sell them. There are also people who use them as target practice, usually leaving young prairie dogs orphaned and the injured PDs to die. Ranchers see them as pests and poison them. It is very sad because they really do make great pets. There has also been a ban on the buying, selling and trading of PDs because a batch came in with some Gambian rats that had Monkey Pox. Lemmie know if you want more info
