Wazzel's mostly SPS 120

I got hired to set up some displays at MACNA. My employer is going to pay me in "stuff". He offered dry goods or live stock. Even tho my main tank is full, I picked corals. The first installment is a nice blue Walt Smith acro. I will be working Wed, Thurs, Fri(??) and Sun and attending on Saturday and Sunday so if you are going to be there let me know.

Just spent Wed thru Sun at MACNA. Saw some nice stuff and met some nice people. Just about broke the bank on a GHL Profilux, doser, vortec module, propeller breeze 4 and a couple of nick knacks. Marco made the purchase super easy, great guy. I also chatted with Scott a bit, nice guy also.

If you were there I hope you enjoyed the Maxspec, Walt Smith and JBJ display tanks. I was part of the crew that set them up, took care of them during the show and broke them down after. For my labor I got pick of the litter from Walt's tank after the show. Ended up with 5 nice min-colonies and a red open brain. Not to mention my admission to the show was covered.

Taking down Maxspec, me on the hose.

In addition to my payment, I purchased a nice octo spawn and got a "break" dark green branching sum coral. This is my first NPS coral. It was at the bottom of our transportation trough. Going to give it another day before I try to spot feed. It is in kind of rough shape so I hope it makes it.

Where is the GHL ProfiLux 4 FAQ thread? I am going to need it.

I got all 4 probes in the water, but not calibrated. Unable to get my connection to myghl sorted. My only real accomplishment was figuring out how to get my clip fan to go on and off at a temp set point so it is not running all the time and making my heater work more than necessary.

As some of you may know I had a sneaky heater malfunction that look to be the root cause of all my issues over the summer. The malfunction cost me 3 large colonies, 3 small colonies and a few frags. My Myagi tort was about 90% gone when I corrected the problem. Things look to be in recovery mode, but I am fighting algae and cyano.

Here is the tort. You can see some of the remaining flesh in the pic below. The polyps are out and the color is good. I think it will come around.

I have not tossed any of the skeletons yet. The bone yard is kind of big. Really sucks since everything was grown from 1" frags. Need to take a shot to show the extent of my losses.

Sorry to hear about your losses. I always unplug my heater in the summer. One less thing Murphy can get his hands on. LOL Nice pick ups also.

That's terrible! I'm looking at a similar image due to an Alk spike so I'm right there with you.

What were the details on the heater issue? Did I miss it?

I had posted a thread about it. Here is the recap.

It looks like the controller malfunctioned and was showing a lower temp on the display them my tank was actually running. I did not have a second temp monitoring device on the tank. What brought it to my attention was after a power surge it went out completely and the controller failed on. The tank got real hot that day, but did not cause any additional issues. I pulled it and got a replacement heater and controller. When I put the new heater on the tank it displayed a temp in the mid 80's. That day I added a cheap desk fan and the temp got down to the upper 70's and thing have been fine since. I suspect I was running mid to upper 80's rather consistently, but do not know for sure.

I now have GHL P4 on my tank to measure temp and control the heater and fans. Seems to be working as intended.

On a good note, it looks like the cyano and algae are starting to work their way out. I have been manually harvesting during water changes. Both are not coming back as fast as they had been.

Are you still seeing steady recovery since correcting the heater issue?

Yes I am. My pink birds nest has exploded with growth. Everything is showing some growth. The pieces that were RTNing have stopped and are starting to grow back and everything has gotten most of their color back. If I had to put a number to it I would say my tank is about 80% recovered.

Hey Mark , its been a while with no updates...Hows the tank? I was also wondering if your still running the Hydras and at what peak %
