Well, some of you may have seen my ORA picasso clowns I got a few weeks back...unfortunately they both died within days of each other for unknowns reasons while in QT. They both were doing great hosting in thier RBTA and eating for about 2 weeks, then they both disappeared (literally). The tank only was housing them and the RBTA. Anyway, after being discouraged I was lucky to find these babies...

The clowns are about 2.75'' and 3.25'' respectively.
They seem to be a lot more active, smarter...more interesting to watch. The picassos just laid in the BTA and appeared to be "dumb"....hopefully these 2 will do a lot better...I'm setting up a 30g Breeder for them to hangout and hopefully spawn in the coming months.

Any comments/questions are welcome...as usual...
 
Thats weird.........did you do water tests? Did you do a w/c before you added these stunning clowns (;))? They are awesome, it would just be a great pity if they suffered the same thing as the others....But as I said, awesome pair. Great find.
 
thanks! I did multiple water tests and everything came out to be perfect so I was pretty stumped as they didn't appear sick at all either. I do WC's once a week w/ water from my 120g...the WC percs are doing great but I'm hoping to get them in their new tank ASAP so they have a bit more swimming room than just 10g...
 
If they just disappeared, there is only a couple things it could be. They could have jumped out. The BTA could have eaten them (not likely, but possible). There is a crab or mantis shrimp hiding in that piece of live rock that ate them.

I alway cover my QT tanks with egg crate to keep the clowns in the tank.

FWIW: The upper clown in pics 1,2 & 4 is a very beautiful perc, but to qualify as onyx, the black must make a complete bridge(on both sides) between the 2nd and 3rd stripe as well as the 1st and 2nd.
 
The QT is completely covered with egg crate and I removed all of the rock looking for the missing clown and nothing could be found, so I'm thinking the RBTA either ate them or my CUC is a lot for efficient than I thought. You are right about the one perc that you mentioned, I'm hoping they both with develop more black in the coming months!
 
I would say no. At this size the formation of the black is usually complete. The black may become reduced due to stress/conditions. For example, I wouldn't be surpized if the black on your lower fish spread up to his dorsal fin as it gets used to your tank. That shadowy orange up there and the blurred edge of his black tells me that when he was in the wild that area may have been black. The black on the upper fish has a crisp border and the orange between the black is bright. That makes me think that is the color it is going to stay.
 
size does not dictate black migration. its an ever changing variable on percs. but the amt of black can dicate relative age of the clown.

i have no doubt the black will migrate and connect completly. ive seen it many times on many many clowns.

black only stops if its very close to the white bands. but if you ever see it atleast a few millimeters away it is still developing and will eventually connect, regardless if the black edge is sharp or blurred. once the migration starts away from the band, it will connect eventually.

im confident both your clowns will dev. alot more black.

the one clown thats not complete now is the type of clown people should look for at your local pet stores. you have a high prob. of getting a good onyx without paying onyx prices.
 
thank you ssagent....hopefully your right embryoguy, I have noticed the black beginning to migrate out again on both clowns...I'll update the pictures soon!
