We Finally Broke Down.....

Well after being in the hobby for the last seven years, Jen and I just did something we thought we would never do. We got our first MH setup. Yes people, that's right! :) We've been avid PC users since we've been in the hobby, and although they've been good to us, we came to the conclusion that we would like to venture off into the world of SPS and higher light loving clams.
So we are now running 4x96 watt actinic PCs with 3 250 watt halides.
Just thought we would share :)

Awesome !!

Congrats !!!

That new lighting will let you do what ya wanna do :D

Did you go with 10k,14k, or 20k halides ??

That's alot of light, did it raise your water temp.? How are you keeping things cool? Is there a glass cover on your tank? So many questions because I'm thinking of going to MH also but am concerned about the heat. After just adding a second PC my temp went up. I bet it looks awsom though huh?

Well, since the corals have been under PC's for so long, we are doing it slowly. We have the timers set for a half hour a day under the halides for the first week, then gradually move them up week by week. So, we havent seen the temp issue YET. We dont want bleaching either. Even though its only been 4 days, I can see a change in the corals already.

I just got an electric blue maxima from the LFS on Wed night. He's soooo cute and only 2"!! Other then that, Im definatly in the market for some blue tort, purple/blue stag's, and some bright pink birds nest!! Needless to say, I used to drool over them, and now I can indulge!!!

You may want to look into hand feeind that clam for a bit because its so small. iv read that clams under 3 inches need to be hand fed phyto

Ive had a 2" crocea thriving in my tank and I do not feed any phyto. BB SPS tank with tons of flow and medium bioload.

No need to feed them directly.
