Not sure my last post went through. My 2-3 year old 9011 skimmer barely gets the water up and out the outlet tube. It sits in 5 inches of sump water, all connections, including the base plate are connected, tight and clean. The drive unit seems a bit pitted and worn but not bad. Any suggestions?

I can think of a few possibilities.

1) The bottom lid may not be fully closed, it only has to be open a little at the back to prevent it from pressurizing, this can also happen if the lid on backwards, the beveled side should face the front.

2) The coupler between the pump and intake grate may not be fully seated on the pump.

3) The pump may have one of the following issues-
a) The impeller is fused to the metal shaft and not able to spin fast enough, the shaft should remain in the pump
b) The impeller blades are damaged and shorter than they should be, they should be roughly (just shy of) 2" across tip to tip
c) The disk has worn out so the spacing is not correct and the pump is running backwards on some starts (unidirectional impeller)
d) The sensor that corrects backward rotation has failed (very unlikely, if they work when new, they usually do not fail later)

Thanks Roger,
I went back and looked at the skimmer after reading your post. The base plate shifts to a partially closed position on any attempt to adjust the position of the skimmer. I may just put a bead of clear silicon to seal the front edge, and peel it off when necessary

They changed that cover a couple years ago and it locks in now, it makes it more difficult to remove but replacing that cover is one solution as it has a plastic wedge on it so once it goes on, it locks in and has to be bent down and pulled hard to remove it. The way I always worked with the older cover was to hold it in place while I positioned it and I have modded them in the past by marking where the partition plate is inside drilling a hole for a small nylon screw and tapping it so the screw locked it in behind the partition plate, basically same concept as the wedge they use now but you remove the screw to allow you to slide the cover off. Since this needs to seal, you will want to have a tap to cut the threads rather than using a nut.

Hi Roger,
Will the new cover fit on the old 9011 body. If so, it would be worth my while to get the new one. If available, I am happy to purchase one, since in terms of time, effort, and expenditure it would be cheaper in the long run
