Web Shooter

Ok sorry if this is not the correct forum.

Here is my problem:

I got some live rock that has what has been called "web shooters" that have taken over my tank.

Web Shooter - short hard tube the diameter of a needle which sends out a long stringy type substance that grabes food and pulls it back in.

I have tried snaping these things off the rock but now I am looking for a treatment I can add to the water (?).

Any ideas. Thanks

The critters you are talking about are called Vermitid Snails...they are in fact a snail, only they don't wander around to get thier food, they cast a mucus net that traps particles in it, then they "reel" the net back in and eat the particles.

They are completely harmless in your tank...and are actually a good sign of biodiversity. The only real hazard they pose is cutting your skin when handling the rock barehanded....but, the quick answer to that is.............don't play with your liverock so much :D

I NEVER recommend "adding something to the water" to kill things in your tank unless ABSOLUTELY nessecary....in this is definitely one of those UNNESSECARY moments. There may be some form of biological control available (like something that eats vermitid snails), but I'm not sure.
