Weekend scuba cert

I am from new Orleans and aminterested in getting certified. I have been to several places around here inquiring about scuba certs. They all say ck out dives are in Florida. It seems quite pricey for the class and ck out dive. Was curious of any recommendation of places to just go a weekend in Florida, taken the classes and do ck out dives. Thanks for ur help

So many good places in Florida I like diving in Panama City but there are so many places its hard to say just one. Brother got his cert in destin, it's all about the same diving. I prefer to spearfish out of orange beach AL though.

Louisiana has some good diving, however it's far off shore and usually on oil rigs. While the Panhandle is drivable, the water temperature this time of year will require a thicker wetsuit. I did my divemaster training in Crystal Springs, which has great visability and is very easy diving. It is a further drive. You might want to see if there are any local lakes where you can do your open water dives. Once you gain experience, you might want to check out the Flower Garden Banks. I know there are 2 night liveaboards out of Texas. There might be bouts out of Loisiana as well.
