Weight Limits

So I am looking at setting up my first reef system. I found some good seals on craigslist for larger tanks around 120 gallons. Will I have to worry about weight in my house. I don't want my floor to cave in from the tank weight. The first floor is not concrete but supported with floor joists. Is there any tank size where I really need to start worrying about weight.

Without knowing the construction of your house including size and spacing of joists, how far from wall or main beam under the house, tank running parallel or perpendicular with joists, I don't think anyone will be able to help you. Figure 9-10lbs per gallon for water and tank contents then add weight of tank and stand to get an anticipated weight.

If your not sure get someone to check the construction of the joints. The outer wall is usually the wall that can hold the most weight. I was worried about weight and im on the second floor. I decided to not chance it and go with a 40 breeder. I think I will be ok with a 75 gallon. Personally you should be fine with 75 gallon any more than that I will for sure check the joints, etc.

If you do a search on this forum, you will find tons of very helpful posts. They were a big help to me when I was asking your same question.
