weird crab I.D.

ok i posted this in General Marine, but here i am for the "experts"

this guy doesn't seem to hurt anything, other than my turbo he killed for the shell.

any ideas?

I believe the stripe-legged and furry hermits become much larger than one would like in a reef tank. Since crabs are omnivores and scavengers (sometimes creating their own carrion) this may become a problem. On the other hand, if you want a funny guy in the subbasement (sump) he might be quite personable.

well he's in my 46G for now, which was set up with DSB and seeded with LS from my 90 and cured rock from my tubs i've been curing it in and some from my 90G so i didn't even have a cycle. Only thing in there right now are some zoos and shrooms and he's really being a good kid and since no one can ID him, he might not be so common. He don't bother the fish at all (2 clowns, 2 baby mollies) but Jack the Ripper, my evil Emerald crab tries to take a piece out of the clowns whenever they swim by. I think they try to irritate him sometimes by swimming close to him and then away and back again. HAHA he's an idiot, if i didn't have so much respect for marine life i would squash him for sure. He's such a tool!

y'know, it looks a bit like a Coral Hermit: saltcorner.com, inverts, hermits. It eats other crustaceans.

Might be a Star-Eyed hermit. My LFS sells those as Star-Eyes anyway, they may be wrong. Just a guess.

To me it looks like a Dardanus. Keep an eye on him - some species do get pretty big and can be nasty predators.
