weird white growths in chaeto macro algae id

hey guys im not sure what this is but it is growing inside my small ball of chaeto algae and also on the side of my rock, not sure what it is and an id would be great, it is a white body with a little tail sticking out at the end

If I'm looking at the same thing you are, the longer than wide tube shaped things, they are probably sponges. Most likely pineapple sponges. They are good for your system but will most often die off over time. They are quite common in newer tanks and go away as the tank matures.
 
Wow! I have never seen so many in one aquarium. At the most I have ever had was one in each of my 3 aquariums
 
I had them in a 150 gallon but I couldn't drop the nitrates, I think that was my problem.

I think they're beneficial, at any rate. Although you probably don't need quite so many in that filter of yours. They grow on my live rock, and I've had them on my plants too. They prefer darker spaces.

Most, not all, but most of the sponges that survive in our marine aquariums don't care for light and grow on the dark side of the rocks. At least in my experience.
