Well it wasn't the sand

Hey guys more bad news from my tank. After the meeting last week I decided to remove the sand from my tank as I thought it was the problem. Apperantly not as I again tested the water and came out with the right perameters after changing the sand. After about 10 days and a small diatom bloom.

Put in 2 damsels and a hermit.

Well you guessed it hermit died almost as soon as he hit the water and the damsels looked great for a day then died as well.

Not sure as to what to look for next. Could I have a bad appliance in there, I bought all new powerheads, and pumps.

Any other wierd toxcicity to check for? The damsels looked good for a day and even ate a small bit of flake in the a.m. the next day but soon started to hide and then that was it. Stayed near the bottom if that tells you anything.

Ask any questions you think might help as I started a tank a couple years ago with no problems at all and now I am at a loss as to what to do.

Hey Craig that sucks. I know how you fill. Maybe you should let the tank cycle for a few weeks and then try. But I would not Take my advice because my 125 just went though a crash.

Dale read your post. I am sorry, it is hard for me to complain about a few fish and snails when you lost a priceless amount of corals. I found a living damsel today just hanging out so I have a little hope that maybe it wasn't cycled all the way. Maybe it is time to be patient. What do you use to test your salinity ?

my guess is that after you removed the sands from your tank, you also removed the bacteria with it so their is not enough bennefitial bacteria inside your tank to control the amount of ammonia produced by your fishes therefore the snails and hermit die instantly.

Northbay Reefer I use the Coralife deep six and had Ceasers test it with the refracto whatcha ma callit.

I added a 55 gal supply of cycle while I let the fish and snails acclimitize but maybe that was a little to late. I let the drip go on the fish for 30 min and the snails for about an hour. I have heard that some will wait 5 hours for snails. Anybody have any thoughts??

Well off to check out the tank to see if Miracle the yellow tail damsel is still kicking...Craig.

Did you test for ammonia or nitrite??? A slow drip till you double the original water volume of the bag should be enough.
