I don't know about the rest but your PH is dangerously low...it should be around 8.2 or so....

Not really. EPA standards say ph in drinking water should be between 6.5 - 8.5

Now for a reef tank, it is a little low for system water. But the pH of RO water should be 7.0 it comes to normal when you add the salt mix.

Thanks for the replies.

These are county water test results. I just want to know if this water is a decent starting place or will I need to look at other options.

I figured cycling/biological filtration would help in control of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. Do I need to test for these now?

Nitrate, Phosphates, Silicates are the 3 biggies when it comes to algae issues in your tank. I suspect your silica level will give you the potential for chronic diatom blooms ... you have no provided info on nitrates or phosphates.

In general well water tends to be hard and loaded with minerals and well water reefers usually end up having to invest in an RO/DI setup - based on the limited info provided I doubt your going to be one of those rare exceptions. You can pick up a decent RO/DI device on EBay for under a $100 .. thats my recomendation.

Yes, test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, you do not want to add these to your system if you do not have too.

Phosphate is another biggie, test for it as well.

I am concerned about the copper. Copper is bad bad bad.

Will the RO/DI device knock out all the potential problems listed above?
(Nitrate, Phosphates, Silicates, copper)

Any recommendations on particular unit?

Thanks much for the advice.

I would really consider an RO/DI unit. Do yourself a favor and pick one from an RC vendor. Be prepared for high cO2 in your well water. This may cause you to go through DI media quicker than expected. Also, you probably have low water pressure and that would call for a booster pump to keep you above the 50psi minimum.

Yes .. an RO/DI unit should eliminate those issues.

I don't have a favorite RO/DI unit ... I got mine on Ebay from filterdirect and have been satisfied. Whatever you purchase make sure it comes with std filters (so you can easily replace) .. I like the clear filter housing so you can see whether your pre filters are getting dirty . but thats not essential.

Heres a unit similar to the one that I bought (price must have gone up about $20)

Shipping is one of the big Ebay scams. That unit has a $25 shipping charge, but it probably only costs them $10 to ship it. Shipping is 20% of the total price of that unit.
