went seining

:( No they didn't all make it. My bubbler stopped working in the middle of the night. They are opening up the room right now and I'll be on my way. Lost the lookdown and the larger spade :( and 2 pipefish. Everything else is fine (my bubbler came disconnected in the night). The pompano/permit and the jack in my son's tanks are GREAT! They are funny and hungry and eat everything! I'm not sure if I have the heart to take them to school now. I've got smaller ones in the bucket so we'll see.

well thats sad to hear that lookdown would have been real cool so i guess youll just have to go out again (darn) i might be interested in watching you tecnic if ya ever wanted some company im in st pete not to far from IRB also have a QT for stuff too good luck with the other stuff

mrferrit...I do plan on going seining 2 more times before school starts (so, in the next 2 weeks). One time at the beach and one time in sea grasses somewhere. Maybe we'll find a time to meet with others if they want to go.

Who's available weekdays? (fewer people)

Lady, firstly, how are the frags doing? secondly, tuesday is good for me. about the only day. just not this tuesday. God I'm a pain.

OK, next Tuesday it is. Want to go to the beach or the grasses? I'll tell you what...I'm up for EITHER! but...so far (and of course it will be opposite now that I've said this), the beach we get pretty much the same thing each time except maybe 1 new thing every 4-5 times. The grasses we get lots everytime. We usually get more pipefish, seahorses, boxfish etc in the grasses. I'm still suprised/excited about what we caught in the Gulf. So I don't care either way. We need to check the tides.

I'll bring an 8 ft net and a 14 ft. net (I'm guessing on those lengths).

Dragon...the frags are doing great! Something stung, I think, one of the toadstools. I have some wacky coral on some live rock called "diamond coral" or something like that. Anyways, I moved it away from that and it's fine. Xenia is now in 3 different tanks. The green guys ( are they star polyps? just different from others I've seen so I'm not sure...still learning) seem healthy. They aren't really growing as far as I can tell, but they are always "flowing" like grass in the wind. They are cool. Thx. I'm actually looking forward to the school year :D !!! (the way it should be!).

I am arriving in Clearwater on Tuesday, no I am not inviting myself and would not even entertain the idea, wife would kill me especially on the day we arrive.

Where are you going specifically (in the grasses) and where can I get a saltwater license to collect some of this stuff.

LOL Plz invite yourself. I don't really even know the people I am talking to :) !! You can buy a license at most bait/tackle shops I believe. If I'm with you, you don't need a license to seine with us. If you keep things, then you are supposed to have one. Just use your best judgement on that.

I'll tell you what...if you are doing it just for fun...it is very educational and interesting. There is always the bad day, but usually we catch lots of crazy things. When we decide on a place, we'll post it up.

What time are you arriving?

My flight arrives around 10:00am, I have to get to the hotel and check in get lunch so I wouldn't be available until at least 3 or 4. Oh I can image my wife, Where are you going? To meet a lady in the grasses of the Tampa Bay.

Thanks for the offer, then I will try to make it,if it works for me. I am trying to get a seining net from a company in St. Pete, on ebay, florida nets, 5ft net about $6.

I have never seined a grassy area, I live on the NJ coast, I have seined the beach and ocean.

HAHAHAHHA omgosh that is so funny!!!!! My husband is NOT into this stuff like I am and always says "should I start wondering when you keep telling me you are meeting the "reef" people you meet online?" lol

thx Rich...I needed that laugh. I can SO relate!

Glad to always hear someone laughing.

Set it up the way you want, if it works I will certainly try to be there, to learn what you guys catch. I wouldn't take anything that day, but would probably return another day, with a license, and see what I could take home.

Does anyone know what benifit coquinas would have in our enclosed systems. I read were some shoreline clams help filter the water of impurities during high tides. I know these are small, but has anyone else used these???

Gusto idk about the coquinas since my trigger fish always eats them but i would imagine they probable dont live to long under water...im not certain though. Ladyfsu let me know what time and where at. i dont have a seining lisence but i have done it quite a few times with my family. i personally dont care where we go seining. i like the beach or the grasses. let me know im good for any place.

i think i can do to sounds like a great time yahooo RC meeting on the beach ha well just let us know when and where it dont matter to me,=)

LOL, ok well should probably do it at low tides and they are EARLY morning or late evening but I think we'll be fine. You guys are at least 6'5" so you can go out in the deep waters right? j/k

The only grasses I know of is at Howard Park in Tarpon Springs. Is that too far for you guys? If someone knows of a place closer to Clearwater then chime right in.

Let's do 10am Tuesday. I'll post up exactly where at Howard Park if we don't find something else in the next 4 days. It's a nice place.

well if it counts for anything one of my friends wants to come with me and hes 6'8". haha anywhere you want to is fine with me. kepp us posted on where it will be.
