Western Blue Devil???

I have tried long and hard for two years looking for the rare Western Blue Devil until just two weeks ago I stumbled upon a four year old specimen in great condition! The only downside is that the owner said he wants $300 because he's tried of it. The fish is eating very well but he tends to stay in the rock crevices. Is this a good buy for such a rare fish? He won't be going anywhere soon so I have plenty of time to decide. Any thoughts or suggestions on this? (NOTE: I bought a large Marine Betta Grouper from the same guy and it is thriving very well.)

It needs cooler temperatures to thrive...........64-72. Are you planning on keeping it in it's own tank?

I dont really care much for their look. I understand they are "rare" but they look like some kind of cichlid to me, a plain freshwater fish.

So for me, $300 isnt a good buy for a fish that hides and is kind of ugly IMO :)

But otherwise, yes, according to people who like that fish, that is a decent price.

That is a good price. They normally are 500$+... however in your current set up, it will eat most of the fish, and inverts... How big is it?

Wow, already too big for a 90 with the stock list you have. I have a 7' 300 gallon tank with lots of rock but also lots of open space and caves and my 8" fish all look too big for my tank... 7" in a 90, I can't imagine how stuffed in it will be there even though it doesn't appear to be an active swimmer. Figure 48" width (probably down to about 45" when you take into account the glass and the trim) so your fish is close to 1/6 the width of the tank already.

If you don't have a dedicated tank ready for this fish don't buy it. Your 90g is already overcrowded...........not to mention incompatible with it's needs for lower temps.
