Wet dry filter

I have a wet dry filter I am considering using, I have read a few things that are a bit concerning with the bio balls, so I am thinking of using it to store extra live Rock so I can have less in the DT, Is this ok as long as the water level is high enough to cover the rock? Could I put a CUC in there to take care of the detritus build up? Could I Also place my PS in the "wet" compartment just before the overflow to the return?

Bioballs can be useful with fish-onlies, but not with a reef, which is easiest with a sump, live rock, no filter.

You don't have to worry about covering the rock in the sump.
The object is only to make sure it stays "wet".
I used a crap load of live rock rubble. Worked awesome.
I tried bioballs this time around and I'm not impressed. Going back to rubble shortly.

I Tried posting a pic last night but couldn't fig it out, I have a 40 gal sump (35gal for refuge 5 gal for return) the wet dry filter is connected to the return side of the sump via bulk heads and a union valve acting as an overflow from wet dry to return

when using rubble do you keep a CCU for the detritus build up in the wet dry?

It is a good idea. I have a rubble barrier between cheato and my pump chamber wall, and little crabs, snails, worms, all good.
