Wet Sides keep falling off

I have 4 mp40qd's that are only a few months old. I cleaned them (not complete disassemble) over the weekend and now all four of them are falling off. It doesn't happen right away and of course it happens when I'm not home. All of the props are spinning freely when I move them.

Anyone ever experience this?

Yes, same issue. Even though they spun freely, I took them completely apart, cleaned in vinegar with a soft toothbrush. They seems to spin easier after. Haven't fell off since.

that will be my next step but Im wondering if my program and power level has anything to do with it. Its happened two days in row where all four wet sides have fallen off and it seems to be happening in the afternoon when my program goes from Nutrient Transport Mode to Tidal Swell. I had lowered the power level to 20% during those modes so I am wondering if there is some kind of pump cavitation that is causing the wet sides to lose contact with the dry side. I changed my program for today and will see what happens when I get home this afternoon.

It's totaly possible that the switching of modes/speeds could make them detach.
I will add, that before I cleaned mine, if I tried to run under 20% in feed mode (Apex controlled) one would chatter bad as if the magnets weren't in sync or trying to catch up with each other. After cleaning I run them at 5% durning feed mode and they are smooth as silk.

hopefully it will solve my problem. I am about to leave town for two days on a business trip and I know my wife wont be too thrilled about sticking her arm in the tank to attach the wet sides!

SPotter...I run four MP60s and have in the past had a similar issue, but one that I have pretty much resolved. I came to conclude that the root cause for me was that the wet/dry sides were not really well aligned and/or the spacer/rubber cover on the dry side needed to be wiped clean and reset so that it laid perfectly flat. Similar to you, when the modes changed, I found NTM generally the culprit do to the power surging up and down during the wave portion, to sometimes cause the pump to seperate.

This is what has solved my problem when reattaching after maintenance:

1. When disconnected, scape inside of tank well where wet side will sit. Be sure to get any algae or other junk that may be there.
2. When disconnected, clean outside where the dayside will sit. I use a little vinegar to make sure any dust, salt, etc is gone and perfectly clean.
3. Hold dry side static and align by moving only the wet side.
4. Start-up on a very low constant power mode.
5. Keeping hand on/near wet side (be careful not to lose a finger here), ramp up the speed to max and ensure no issues. If you hear any chatter or get rotation of the dry side, try to move the wet side to improve alignment. Make VERY SMALL adjustments, a little can mean a lot.
6. Assuming all is good, go to a wave, NTM, etc. and monitor to ensure to chatter/rotation/separation.

This has solved my MP60 separation issues post-maintence, almost completely.

Good Luck....JPB
