Wetside Rotating

I have the same problem, my vortechs have been in my tank less than 2 weeks and 1 of them kept spinning and falling off or the controller blinks red and stops the pump if it doesn't fall off first.

I took the wetside apart tonight and noticed the plastic washer that sits above the magnet had completely worn away on one side, before tonight these pumps were working fine and really quiet so there was no warning something was wrong till tonight.

Please can somebody shed some light on this problem, for such an exspensive pump i'm so far unimpressed because I've only just got my wireless controller replaced on one of them as it didn't work.

I have never heard of the plastic washer behind the magnet wearing ever, and I can't exactly understand how that would occur. If the pump is spinning and falling off the tank it could be a pin spacer related problem, have you checked the pin spacer settings? Also, blinking red lights suggest it could be a loose motor wire. The symptoms that you have described are very odd to hear all at one time, for a two week old pump I recommend Jez just replace it completely and we can diagnose it once we have it back.

Yes the spacers are set at the correct thickness as my tank walls are 10mm thick so the spacer pins are not set, as your manual states not to use the pin spacer if it is 5/8" or 3/4" thick.

This one has had the controller replaced this week as it didn't work, the controller flashed red on connection and never powered the pump at all, so this has been running for a few days before it spun off.

I hope this helps you diagnose the problem.

Hello Mike,

Is the pump which is acting up the same one that had the driver replaced? If so, I highly suspect that during the swap or perhaps even before it, a wire was loosened on the motor's connector causing a bad connection. This will cause precisely what you are experiencing.
