What a storm

tank o tang

Thread Lurker
That had to be the worst storm I have ever seen (including hurricanes) in such a short 20min burst. I lost power and after 4 hours I had to run and grab a generator to make sure the tanks are safe. Glad I got one yesterday as there are still alot of people without power (fiddly), and we know how quick HD runs out. Power finally came back on around 11 last night and all the tanks look fine.

How long do you average a tank can survive without power on these hot summer days?

Glad you were able to get the generator. The heat is the killer in a summer outage. Ive lost power for 12 hours or so with no ill-effect, but the last 'major' outage we had in Weston several years ago had me without power for many days -- needless to say I lost most of my prized corals at the time.

I have tried and tried to talk the wife into getting a whol-house generator system but she just wont go for it -- its a pretty steep price tag. I should get one one the of wheeled variety but Im never home when the power goes out so would do me a lot of good just sitting in the garage! (and no, my wife will not start it w/o me there...UGGH)

Sounds like it was a pretty rough storm! If you lost power, you might not have seen the fact that it made national news.

I'm what? Maybe 10 miles away, and there was NOTHING here, except some wicked hard rain for a couple of minutes. As I'm sure you know, it was one of those fairly rare animals in Connecticut - a tornado. Apparently it only came down low enough to do damage in your area Jeff. It was a freak thing.

Hope your tank is ok. Lemme know if you need help. :)

WOW got my power back after 4 days.... lost it thursday at 2.30 pm got it back sunday.. lost all my fish my shrimp my crab and other little critters... took 24 hours for me to get a generator hooked up.. But only lost one coral a little bottlebrush acropora the tank is ok I guess but I can't find 2 fish the watchmen goby which is probally in my big piece of LR and a purple dartfish. And worried about them rotting away in the tank. But I got a new 600$ generator the same one as jeff so this wont ever happen again.. I watched the torando start across the street in the green on boston ave. across from the cemetary.. I saw the clouds so low to the ground turring in different directions then it started picked up a tree ripprd it out the ground I mean a 70' tree and then carry it 100yds. and threw it into the green. thats when I ran into the middlr of the house. I don't get scares but I was shaking for an hour or to my hands and arms were just shaken that tree into the house on boston ave next to the cementary is my neigbors house.. all those trees all around me but the only 2 standing were the 2 right next to my house.. makes you think sometimes why my house and i was spared.. But anyways it's all good now see you all at the next meeting Brian..

Glad to see you finally got your power back. If you need water to make up some SW for water changes just let me know.

Wow, I am glad you are ok. That sounds so scary. Amazing what mother nature can do and sometimes we forget that living in the northeast.
