What additives/brands are you using

I use bulk additives from ebay. Its much cheaper to buy calcium chloride in 3 pound bags and mix it myself than to buy pre bottled solutions. I also buy magnesium chloride from ebay, mag sulfate from the grocery store and I keep my alk in check with Kent coral builder.
The only bottled solution that I really buy is NoPox from Red Sea.

We need a lot more input on this one... I use a combination of BRS for magnesium sulfate and chloride / I used a combination of soda ash and baking soda at a ratio of 1 cup BS, 2 tbs soda ash, 1 gallon di water to make an alkalinity solution that doesn't affect ph. I will be switching to Kalkwasser soon to maintain ca, dkh and ph.

If you can't/don't measure it, why add it?
I use BRS kalk in my ATO. That plus water changes has worked well for me for many years.

As for BRS... (like the magnesium sulfate) They do get good quality stuff, but you will find 100% Magnesium Sulfate Epsom salts that are as good. The last BRS container I got had little black flakes of something... I have to dose through a short plastic funnel with a screen at the bottom (From the Hospital for patients with stones in their urine). 10× better than a coffee filter and works for everything.
