What Alage is this?

Dear Friends,
I am suddenly facing this algae problem...

The system is a 130 gallon 4.5' tank, with LED lighting. never had this problem for the last 1.5 years using LED... i use SEA water to do Water changes... should there have been any nutrients in that?

What algae is it? it is the brown one that is floating like strings attached to the LR...

I tried sucking them out and they come off pretty easily.. and again they form in the same place in a couple of days...

and i have seen the strings go upto about 1 foot long... when touched they are slimy and not-catchable!!! they just float offf...

and there is bubbles on them.. meaning they are breathing...

what algae is this? and how can i get it under control...

kindly help...as i am leaving out of country in a couple of days and wont be here for 15 days..

It is really hard to tell from the pictures, but from your description I'd say it is dinoflagellates.

<soft and slimy, grows really fast, bubbles>

+1

PH has a lot to do with Dinos, Try and control the pH and usually it takes raising the pH.

Try to control both nitrates and PHos, if this is a new aquarium, then they will burn themselves out, if not, then you have excess nutrients. Try a 3 day lights out period, and you can try the Carbon dosing and MB7 routine. That seems to out compete some of these problems.

Good luck,
Aaron

The nutrient content of your Sea water will vary from location to location, but is probably higher than what you would get from a mix.

Thanks.. but do dyno's have bubbles in them ?

It is an established tank about 2.5yrs old... so will go with vodka dosing...

nitrates measures zero with salifert, and phospates are below 0.03 again with saliferts...
