Take a stiff bristle toothbrush or even a small wire brush and scrub it off the rock. I've done it while still in the tank when pulling the rock out would be a major hassle. Be prepared to change the filter sock if you use any. You may have to do this 2 to 4 times. But I've found that most turf and macro algae do not grow back as fast after it's cut or pulled. I have a 65g shallow reef with local (Florida) live rock and inhabitants. I let a few macro algae species get a bit out of hand. After I 'exported' most of it once, it grew back much slower. I've had similar results going after hair algae in my other tanks as well.

Good luck.

I had some of that red/green turf algae when my tank was new, and I honestly wish it hadn't gone away. As long as it doesn't spread, I think it's pretty cool looking, doesn't block out light, and also does you a favor with absorbing extra nutrients.

Ron, I think I have some red turf algae in my tank. I'll scrub it. At first I thought it might be cyano, but it's not.

I'm hoping to put an ATS online soon to help this and other things.

Corey
