What algae is this?

This seems to grow rampant in my frag tank. I have some in my display as well, but it doesn't seem to grow nearly as well. Never seems to take root onto rocks, only glass or plastic.

Yes, it is transparent green color, but it waves much like algae. Also grows somewhat quickly. It does seem to have trouble taking foot to anything other than plastic or glass though. A couple of the frag plugs have managed to get it stuck on them but I can easily brush it off.

Sorry to follow up with another question but where does it grown in the display tank? Is there any eggcrate in that system that it is growing on?

In the display tank it seems to be growing mainly on the back glass. Some on the sides. It tends to grow better in shade oddly enough. No eggcrate in the display tank.

The shaded area sure sounds more like a sponge. I have a clear stringy sponge growing on the backside of my rocks where there is little light. Doesn't really spek to why its showing up in a brightly lit frag tank though. Reason I asked about eggcrate is because I have read a few threads in the past about a "snot" algae growing on it specifically. I reacll that having more of a reddish/brown tinge to it though.

Edit: Just did a quick search since I couldn't recall and it seems that those that gave the white eggcrate a good soak in vinegar and water didn't have any further issues and then there are those that went straight to the black, food grade eggcrate to avoid it all together. Not saying this is 100% your issue but worth looking into. Are you certain what you are seeing in your frag tank is the same as what is in your DT?

It does look a bit like snot to be honest. I'm not certain they're the same to be honest. Similar looks but not certain. Very different lighting. The frag tank is running overdriven T8s. The DT is running LEDs.
