In many tanks I've noticed that the clowns look for location as much as what the animal is. I've seen clowns that will take to an anemone, but then if it moves more than a few inches, they'll stay where it used to be, and will host in another anemone or coral if you put it where the first anemone was.
Some clowns will take to whatever you put in the tank that even marginally resembles an anemone. Others won't host in anything.
