what are some fish that you will not try to keep again?

Blue spot jawfish due to the BSJ disease. No cure and no cause, which means we can't control it.
I tried to revive my old thread about it asking if the issues had been solved and no one posted. Somebody in here posted a video made by someone who claimed success. And she was saying that what we were speculating about was about at the end of the thread - that they need a cooler tank. I think she maybe also said feed 3x per day. Hers looked pretty healthy, fwiw. Did you address the temperature issue?

Not really a fish, but a sexy shrimp. Tore my Frogspawn down to just barely the skeleton. Gave the shrimp away, put the frogspawn in a QT tank and he is doing awesome. Never another sexy shrimp in my tanks.

I just got rid of mine too. Was eating SPS. Dipped coral thinking it was some type of pest. Then realized it was sexy shrimp having late night snack! Not so sexy anymore.

Goldflake Angel--Difficult to know if you are getting a healthy one to start. I have had 2 just up and die even after QT and significant time in my display.

Multi-Barred Angel- eventually just stop eating for me and withered away.

Venustus & Colini Angels- same as the multi barred.

Regal Angel- tried three in the last 10 years, none lasted past 6 months.

Any Acanthurus Tangs- They all become aggressive at some point.

Six Line and Mystery wrasse- aggression

I'll never try another moorish idol. I was able to keep one alive for about a year but I wouldn't call that a success. Beautiful fish but horrible success rate. I'll also agree with damsels, I still can't catch the two I have now  !

Purple tilefish. So beautiful, but managed to jump onto the top of a light fixture over a covered tank! No more square anthias for me either, they seem to die after a bit more than a year for me. Just like clockwork. Plus the males fade a lot.

Tangs. I just never had luck with them. Lateral line disease, ich, always something. Now that I'm growing macro algae, another good reason to stay away from them. The other fish I won't buy is the one I haven't planned on getting and done some research on. Impulse buys almost always end badly.

Mandarins were on that list for a long time but I just bought one a couple months ago. I still can't get it on frozen food but my tank is full of pods, we'll see.

Blonde naso tang - I'm 0 for 2. Both died within 2-weeks of putting in my tank. I won't be trying again. I've also lost 2 other tangs; one to ich and the other to my haddoni carpet nem. I think I'm done with tangs...

Regal angel - my all time fav, but I recently lost my first try. I will not add it to this yet, as I really want to have success with this fish and I'm willing to take the chance.

Copperband Butterfly - got this fish with a RSM 130 I recently purchased. I didn't want it in my small tank, so I added it to my 90-gal last week. He's been great because he plowed through all of my aptasia, but now he's moved on to my acans. I'm removing all of my acans tomorrow and putting them in QT until the RSM is ready for livestock. If I can catch him, I'll sell him, but if not, looks like I'm not going to be able to add any acans to my big tank. I would never buy this fish in the future though...

Bluespot jawfish, died due to a mixture of BSJ Disease and getting beaten up by my flymo blenny.

Golden Dwarf Angel, my multibar and potters would let him out to feed.

No we kept it in basically a reef tank, and I did find out later that they are collected from cooler waters. I also lost another as a jumper (had the tank covered, found the weak spot I guess). It seems to keep one you need to have almost a species specific tank with a chiller and a cover built for an octopus. We fed it heavily daily and sometimes twice per day, we don't believe in starving our tanks so we feed a lot in general.

Bodianus bimaculatus, twinspot hogfish is a fish from hell!
Killed several of my fairy wrasses and was always on a search and destroy mood (think Terminator movie) when i put new fish into the tank!

Thanks for the feedback. Jawfishes are what made me dream of getting a salt aquarium as a small child. I tried 2 pearlies as a newbie and discovered I had a mantis in my tank :( . Later I tried bluespots twice only to both be lost to BSJ disease. I assume they get damage to the tail during shipping like garden eels and then need a cooler tank. As well as the other requirements. My tanks always ran as hot as possible unfortunately.

Yellow clown goby - very small and vibrant color but a sps nightmare. None of my sps had PE due to nipping. Sps tank without PE is an eyesore! Had to takedown the tank to catch it.

+1 on peppermint shrimp - constantly ATE (not bother) acans.

Despite their fantastic personality and interaction with humans, every pseudochromis. I've had a pink one and a bi-color and both of them were the last fish added into the tank. Within a week they were terrorizing everything in the tank; fish 5 times their size. I had to completely empty a 40 breeder to catch the little bastard.

Now that my yellow tang is gone due to just being ravaged by HLLD, I have a tomato clown, firefish, flame hawk, and yellow-tail damsel occupying A 120 GALLON TANK. I need some other fish. lol. I'm reading this thread and being scared away from every possible reef fish. Heck, 3 of my 4 fish have been boycotted in this thread. lol

Not fish, but coral. I will never try newly imported acropora granulosa again. They are gorgeous, expensive and die within a day.
I can't think of any fish I wouldn't try. I can think of some I dont want to have but thats another thing.

You won't see a lot of complaints about gobies and blennies, I'd look at those. A nice midas blenny maybe.
