What are the effects mag at 1950

I know it sounds wrong but I have over dosed my tank with mag by accident . What are the effects and how is the best way to solve this issue without large water changes .

Calcium is at 480
mag is at 1950
kh is at 7
salinity is at 1024

I know how I did it

I was trying to add potasium and the additive I came up with must have a large mag content .

I will do more tests on that later .

Any help would help greatly

I don't know of any way to reduce magnesium rapidly without doing water changes.

I also do not know that what levels it becomes a significant toxic hazard to a reef aquarium.

You may be our first test case for what happens. :D

That seems to be on some people's minds these days, but I'd personally be surprised if it became depleted in any normal reef aquarium. Do you have a potassium test?

I am interested in testing this solution that I made to see what the mag level is because I only added 16 ml of it to a 130 gallon total water volume tank . So it may be the best way to add mag to a system . Or the salt that I'm using is way out of range .

Salt used is coralife salt

Can't be the source. Even if it were 100% magnesium by weight, that would only raise magnesium by 30 ppm.

Try testing the mix.

It might also be a kit error.

Could be the kit it is old .I did run the test three times with the same result .I am going to purchase a new kit and see what happens .

Thanks for the input

Hey Randy am I adding this correct ?
Ok just tested a fresh water sample ro water with salt mixed it up in a five gallon bucket mixed it with by drill and large stirring adaptor .It is at 1.025 calcium is at 500 the kh is at 7.5 mag is off the chart by my salifert kit is all of one syring and down to 0.73 on the second load if my calculations are right that would be 1500 plus 780 is this correct ?

John

That's about right, assuming the syringes are indeed additive. Is this a new test kit? You might want to ask in the Salifert forum about the version you have, etc.

Based on my experiences with a variety of other Coralife products, it would not surprise me if the salt was off, but I agree that checking with Habib in the Salifert forum to help confirm proper use of the kit is worthwhile. :)

I did some other tests on the salt as well using a hanna meter to check phosphates out of the ro unit 0.06 the salt mix is at 0.86 . This isn't good for me I'm running a low nutrient tank .

I am going to look for seachem salt today .

This would explain the high mag level in the tank and the rise of PO4 as well I was at 0.05 in the tank and now I'm at 0.36 in the tank after about a month of 15% weekly water changes . And the high calcium level as well .

I have 200 regeants so I am going to do some more tests tonight .I am ordering seachem reef salt today and getting rid of this salt I have .
