I am trying to stock my tank and it's the first time I have used T5's. I am trying to deteremine what corals would grow and thrive under T5's. I currently have a 4 bulb set up with 2 helio Super blues, 1 Helio 11k and 1 wave point red wave.

What corals would really look and grow great.

Thank you,
Brian

t5s are pretty strong and according to my lfs you could probably keep clams under that, but maybe stay away from acros. everything else below that in terms of light requirement is good. JMO

I've got six HO T5's over my 46g bow and I have no problem with anything thus far including easy sps like digitas and monti caps. They grow like crazy. Have not tried the harder ones yet. Clam is doing fine as well.

I keep everything, even the most light demanding SPS.

I have a 6 bulb T5, the ATI Powermodule. It's over a 58 gallon tank. I can't keep anything alive long without it bleaching, and then I have to hide it in some shade. (I'm out of overhangs)

In otherwords...I think that from switching from MH to T5's that I have put in TO MUCH light. So I would say that for a 4 bulb fixture...you can probably keep most things...but just go slowly with stocking and make sure each piece is acclimating to the new light safely.

From what I've learned 2 of the most important factors to consider are tank depth and reflectors. For instance, I have a 40H that's 20" deep (not counting sand) and I plan to have 4 T5s with individual reflectors, probably an Ice Cap setup, and I've been told that I should be able to keep just about anything. With proper placement of the corals of course.

jflick, at 20" deep on a 4 tube system with Icecap reflectors and ballasts (ie, overdriven) you should be able to keep SPS and clams even on/near the bottom.

You don't need them to be overdriven to keep any kind of corals, as long as they have individual reflectors you can keep all corals, clams, ect. in a 55.

As stated, individual reflectors are very important. You can keep anything with T5's. I had a clam that was more than happy in the sand of a 24" high tank.

I started with 8-t5's on a 90G and individual reflector's 50/50 mix and now I'm down to only 2- 10 000k while the rest are blue or purple because I was bleaching some sps

sps on my gravel 30" are doing great as well

no acro's thou never tried
