What can I use to remove dry algae?

I've been scraping algae off my new tank for a couple of weeks now and most of it is coming off. However, there are several hardened pieces that will not come off. If I scrape too hard they just break my scraper. I am spraying the tank down with a vinegar/water solution prior to scraping. Is there anything else I could try to remove the algae? Thanks.

Yes, If it is glass use a razor blade. I got a scraper handle thing that holds specially made razor blades in the paint department. Use it on my glass tank. You can buy extra blades and change them out when they rust. If you rince the blade off with fresh water you may often be able to use it more than once. Lesley

I should have been a bit more clear. The tank is acrylic so I cannot use razor blades. But thanks for the replies.

Let that vinegar water solution really soak in there before you apply the elbow grease. Than it's back to the scraper. Also those white pads for cleaning acrylic will work, but will need frequent rinsing to keep from clogging up. There is no easy way with acrylic :D
