What Clam is this?

Thanks, its not dead. It has been kept in a tank with poor fluorucent light. Now it has better light conditions, hope it shapes up.

it does not need to be fed, but supplemental feedings may help in this case. let us know how it does, i doubt it has much time left, hopefully he pulls through.

In all my years I have seen exactly one that looked like that and pulled through. And I mean that as a positive comment- theres always hope.(just not much sometimes- now).

I agree to try supplemental feeding. Take a bowl and put in it enough water from your tank to cover the clam. I would then put some DT's Live phyto and cyclopeeze in the water and wait until clam has the water clear again before putting clam back in display. This feeding will keep the fishes from bothering it, also the keep the flow from blowing away the food

Thanks for the ideas and suport! I try to feed him a little and I do think the new light conditions makes a different. The mantel starts to get some color and has grown a bit. I will post some pictures on the development.

.... and cyclopeeze .....

cyclop-eeze is to large to be utilized by clams. but keep up the phyto feedings

thats great, hopefully he will recover. :)

I wouldnt remove it from the tank to put it in the bowl. The bowls temps will fluctuate too fast just further stressing the clam. Place a bowl over the clam IN the tank and fill a syringe with phyto and shoot it under the bowl before dropping it to the sand bed. Do no shoot the phyto into the clam because this could kill it. Good luck and I hope it pulls through. I also think its a maxima.

Absolutely no need to target feed any clam. Feed the tank phyo (DT's or another live Phyto) but there is no need to increase the concentration around the clam. Clams are passive feeders and cannot absorb more just because there is excess phyto. I have saved a clam that looked close to that. I increased my phyo feeding to twice a day and moved it down in the reef. With that said, I think the clam is all but dead and I am leaning tward dead.

I have nothing to add in terms of feeding recommendations, but this one looks like a Squamosa to me, based on the size of the scutes. Could be wrong, though. Anyone else agree?

What lighting is it under now?

He is on 18 inch depth and direct above him hangs a 150 W aqualine 13000 K metal hide lamp. I started out with just some hours a day not to burn him.
