Blue or Black?

I will paint the back of the tank in order to get the best result.
FOLR
Clowns, Tangs, Damsels.

It seems like I read a while ago that 80% use blue and 20% use black.

I have the background that is of a coral reef. I like it but every time I post a pic I catch a lot of flak for it.

Post a pic. :D

I think it's personal preference and my preference is black. I think it brings out the colors better and also much of the equipment is black so if you have a black powerhead it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb against a black background.

I prefer black cause it helps most equipment blend into the background. I think blue will make any powerheads or other equipment stand out.

True, the black hides a lot. But in a smaller tank (55gal) would blue be better because it makes the tank seem more open and makes it easier to see the fish even when the lights are off?

Do you think fish look better with blue or black?

You could just hang a pic of a fully stocked aquarium on your wall and save lots of money :)

I went with a very dark navy. I did not want to much contrast between the overflow(black) and the background but I also did not want to do just black. Here are a before and after shot.

I do not have any pics with water in yet but with the lights out it looks black. With them on it has a hint of blue. I think it is perfect but if you ask 100 people here you will get 100 answers.

Also know it is very easy to paint and to remove the paint. So if you hate it you can do it again in an hour.

Cheers

I like black, personally. Plus it matched the overflows. Blue would have looked like a pair of skyscrapers against a blue sky. Plus, the back gets covered in coralline and I think black looks better coming through any spots that aren't covered rather than having a bunch of blue dots intermixed with coralline coverage. Just MHO. :D

If I do blue, how much coraline can one expect to grow? Any pics to said coraline on background.

Beautiful tanks everyone.

The entire back of my tank and overflows are covered with coralline, so I guess I can grow enough to do that...
