what corals / inverts should not be kept with BTA ?

bills tank

I have a question that im sure I will get alot of different mixed answers and recomdations ,but any advice knowledge answer will be helpful . I want to figure out what corals really shouldnt be housed in the same tank as bubble tip anenomes ? And while Im asking that what inverts shouldnt be in with bta's as well? I HAVE SEEN MANY TANKS THAT HOUSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ANENOMES with bubble tips which ive read shouldnt be done as well as different corals with bta's that ive also read shouldnt be done . Now i understand that with bigger tanks it could be easier than smaller tanks . I have a 39 gallon that i want to make bta friendly and i already know that this one of my tanks has sufficant lighting and rockwork filter etc to keep them happy and healthy and thriveing I just wanna make sure that nothing that is in my tank will cause a chemical warfair that hurts it i also wanna find out and make sure that non of my inverts will possibly Cause problems for btas too . So any advice input , or experances anyone has had with stuff bothering bta's will help in my goal to keep these . Thanks

The issue of corals is mostly that any coral that touches an anemone can sting/get stung. That is why they "don't get along" but there aren't any corals that will use allelopathy on anemones that I am aware of.

As for inverts, shrimp are a bane to me because they will steal food from the anemone if it doesn't eat fast enough. That's the only issue I've had personally.

Bradleym thanks . Thats what has kept me away from anenomes for so long cuz i didnt want them to go walking threw my reefs leaveing a path behind them or getting themselves hurt . Like i said in my orignal post i read on a site that u shouldnt have mushrooms zoanthinds and gsp with with bubble tips as well as not to put other anenomes with them too . I have all of those in my tank as well as a friend of mine he has a few different anenomes in his reef tank with multiple btas and his tank is just fine . I dont have any anenomes in the tank just the corals as well as leathers anthielia and xenia . I have a serpant star and a small brown and grey stripped brittle star . The stars have not bothered fish corals or inverts i didnt know if they have ever been known to bother anenomes ?

I have a bta tank with 9 of them and have zoa's, paly's, pulsing Xenia, Kenya trees, and a baby plate coral. The bta's go to predictable places so I avoid putting corals in their path. Since bta's don't like sand. I put my elegance coral out there in the sand flat and it sits with confidence lol. I just had a large bta move tonight but it went to a predictable spot. But really any coral in there might get wiped out, and it may bum me out. But the elegance coral is the only one in a "safe spot" that would really upset me. Besides at this point for me I am all in with the anemones. Check my bta tank build to see what I mean. I just bought a green haddoni for my LPS tank. And now my daughter suggested having a haddon's anemone tank lol. I couldn't agree more:)

I have 2 RBTA in my 180g DT and although they have bothered the nearby corals some, it hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it might be. The corals seem to have gotten used to it. And the RBTA did roam around for 6 mths but once it found a home, it's stayed there for a year now and it split about a month ago.

I have close to 20 nems in our 75g nem tank, 2 condys, 4 stone flowers, 3 corkscrews, 1 rhodactis, 1 LTA, 1 RBTA and 8 maxi-minis. They all have room, must have stayed home and all seem to be doing OK. The funny thing is, the mated clowns (a cinnamon and a tomato) live in a condy.

Thanks guys . Ya I think the person that wrote what i read just doesnt want anyone to have fun and enjoy all the nice stuff in the hobby . I dont really like going on wwm cuz hes always so stuck on how he says things have to b . I read on that site that theres no way that a manderan can be kept in a smaller system and live for more than a few months . Ive been in this hobby since i was 12-13 yrs old and have done alot of stuff they say u shouldnt and cant be done . Ive had a manderan in one of me reef tanks my 39gallon for a good amount of time far past what i read is impossableand i have a hard time finding any healthier than mine now my 39 has been running since i was 17 and im now 32 so that prob has alot to do with it but its being done and i bet if i did tell this to that site theyd say im lying but i dont care if they think that or not cuz i have a beautiful manderan that is very happy and fat . It sounds like u all have some nice setups as well and i plan on seeing if u have pics so i can c those tanks . Thanks for the knowledge and any advice ubhave all given

My mandarin eats pellets, they are just a finnicky fish and are the equivelant to underwater hummingbirds, they need to eat often, Mine is fed pellets 3 times a day, plus other feedings of my normal food mix nightly.

As for the nems, I have 6 BTA's in my 203g tank, along with GSP/xenia/sps/lps/zoas/pallys/maxi-minis. I would not reccomend keeping other nems with them in a tank your size. It depends on the type of e. quad you get, I am under the impression, as are many others there is more than one type of e. quad, one that splits around the size of a large softball, and one that grows much larger before splitting, 10-12 inches. If you get one that grows to be 12 inches, keeping much else in regards to coral will be difficult. They can walk (none of mine have moved more than 6 inches from placement in 6 months) and in a 39 gallon tank this can wreck havoc. In general once they are happy and water parameters are right they will stay put. If your nem stays put higher in your tank you can probably get away with adding various corals lower down in your tank. Nems generally prefer high light and will position them selves to get the best light.

Bta's are known for going under rock ledges then extending upwards to get to the light while keeping their foot firmly planted under the ledge.
