The wife said no more anemones! the last one we had ate one of the clown fish so im wondering what corals will the clown fish host. Im running MH lighting so dont have a problem there.

A nice big toadstool (Sarcophyton) makes a great substitute host, and they're very hardy as well. I used to have a female Clark's clownfish who was hosted by a long-polyped toadstool. The coral adjusted to the clownfish's attentions without any problems, and it looked almost like an anemone. You also don't have to worry about the coral receding over time like an LPS might, because the toadstool doesn't have a skeleton. I highly recommend them. :)

Frogspawn - my ocellaris love it. And vice versa - that thing has doubled in size since I introduced the clowns.

I have clowns hosting in the following. 2 huge green finger leathers, a large yuma mushrooms and Frogspawn (oh and one in a RBTA) all in different tanks.

Unfortunately, if you're looking for a anemone replacement with a coral, there isn't one that's a guaranteed host. My perculas are in a tank with all of the corals listed above and they don't go near any of them. I think it's up to the individual fish as to what they choose to host. One of my percs has ventured into a torch coral, but the other one won't go near it. Conversely, I had both a magnifica and a gigantea anemone, and the clowns went to them immediately upon introduction to the tank.

Mine have been in the tank for 2 months and they love the frogspawn, and 3 days ago I put a toadstool in there and now they can't pick one. They like both alot. My buddy has a pair that prefers zoas and he has pretty much everything else in his tank except for anenomes. For some reason his pair bellies up to a colony of zoas on the left side of the tank during the day, and then a colony on the other side of the tank at night.

How about giant clam?

My picasso clown lays up in its host coral. A large elegance coral. The elegance wasnt crazy about it at first but now it opens up in a way that makes it easier for the clown to move around in it.

That a good looking clam! Picked up some duncan coral last night lfs has there clowns hosting theirs in the display tank. If that doesnt work matbe a toad stool next or might be able to talk the wife in to a bta.

I had one living in an elegance coral; however, the coral ate my mandarin. The coral died a few days later and the clown just stays in the back corner of the tank now.

They will host anything sometime even power heads... Xenia, Colt coral, Frogspawn etc.. I woudl suggest to try a frogspwan.

gatojebv beat me to it but, they will host almost anything. My clowns even hosted a overflow box. But from my experience if they host a carol they will beat it to death out of love.
