What corals with these lights?

In a 75 gallon this would be low. Though not perfect take your tank size and divide by the amount of watts your getting for a watts per gallon % . Your is less then 1 watt per gallon. SPS for instance like 5 watts or better. SO the more watts you get the better off you will be.

So what lights would you suggest that are similar to these? I want lights that will be able to mount onto my canopy

I think the Q was what corals with this light...and not Do I need more light...so...
You can keep anything you want want as long as the corals that demand more light are placed at the top, and lesser light dependant corals (i.e. shrooms, leathers, softies) are at the bottom.....and yes, I do agree with Demon on the need for you to decide what you want and what your budget is.

I mainly want softies(really want a metalic hammer),mushrooms, and ricordia........my budget is around 200 dollars if u can even call that a budget but thats all I have.

I have to dissagree, with only 2 96 watt PC bulbs on a 75 gal. he/she is kinda limited to softies, leathers, zoas and a few LPS.

Hopefully this doesn't seem like a hijack, but I have currently been asking myself the same question when planning my first aquarium. I have been eyeing a 75g, and although not quite as restricted with money as the OP, I am still looking to save where I can without completely limiting myself.

Like Maggie Pie, I am mostly aiming for softies, mushrooms, rics, and zoos. Although I'd like some lps or sps if possible, I wouldn't be heartbroken if my wallet can't afford the lighting. Even though OP is looking for retro fits (I'm looking for an entire fixture), we seem to be looking for pretty close to the same output. An LFS in my area was suggesting the Tek T5 4x54 for $290 and 6x54 for $399. The third option I was looking at was the 48" Orbit 4x65w for $270. Obviously I'd rather pay for the cheapest one, but would this be enough to handle what I'm looking for?

One again sorry if this turned into a hijack, but we seemed to be looking for pretty much the same thing (fixture vs retrofit) and starting a new thread seemed redundant.

[welcome]
if wanting SPS later I suggest going with the TEK T5HO 4x54. much better than PC's.

PC bulbs last about 10 monthes max. T5 bulbs last 14-16 monthes. and will also put out more light than PC's as long as they have individulal reflectors for each bulb. like the TEK or Icecap setups.

i would limit myself to softies and most? lps. i wouldnt even bother with SPS. i THINK monti caps would work for you but thats..i wouldnt do it?

Thats fine you didn't highjack anything. We both are trying to figure out what would be best

Thanks! So the Tek 4x54 T5 is actually enough for some sps?

Wouldn't even bother with SPS under which lights? The Sunpaq PC kit posted by the OP or the Tek T5 4/6x54? Or both? How about something like this which uses T5 bulbs and fits within our budget.

Alright cool, just wasn't 100% sure about this forum's particulars. Didn't want to to anger someone off on my first day of somewhere I hope to be spending a lot of time. :)

dont even bother with SPS under the sunpaq PC kit posted by the OP.

imo id only try sps if i had T5s or Halides.

So back to the original question, that PC kit is good for softies, leathers, zoas and a few LPS in a 75g?

softy tank... not necessarily a bad thing... Check out the softy tank at our local zoo:

Also, here is a better lighting unit for cheaper than that one you are looking at

36" T5 Retrofit Kit w/ SLR reflectors from ReefGeek

...and, for like $50 more you could get the VHO model.

I would skip the PC lighting. The IceCap T5 retros are great. Honestly, though, I don't think you or your corals will be happy with just 2 bulbs. I would try to stretch your budget a bit and get 4 bulbs. I think you'll be glad you did in the long run. Whatever you do, buy something that has individual reflectors.

Here's another option: http://www.aquatraders.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=334

Is your tank only 36" wide?
