So let me start this off with I have read this article by Anthony a few times and with it being six years old and still so fitting I will post the link below. I enjoy all of his articles as they I find they are much more "real world" as compared to lots of scientific stats and misc things that I don't really understand anyway. Thanks to Anthony to making scientific reefkeeping more understanding to us. Here's the article that leads me into my thread topic...

So to get back on topic. My grandma still slips me twenty bucks at Xmas and says get yourself something nice... I am 33. Married with two dogs and a baby en route but being the first grandchild gets special privelege! Now that twenty bucks wouldn't get me much but its that money at Xmas that everyone seems to justify spending that they typically wouldn't spend. So what silly purchase did we all make that the other 11 months out of the year we wouldn't have?

I personally am eyeing up a chalice that's entirely stupidly priced but its cool looking. Could prob restock another tank for what the frag costs but eh. Its the holidays.

I know what that's like NaClH2Opgh. However I lucked out....the tank has to be built in before the bathroom wall is installed....so I get my tank ....well in the wall atleast... I've agreed to make the bathroom a priority for 2 weeks once the tank has water, sand, LR, and circulation, I figure I will let it cycle even though I will be using water and sand from my established tank.

LOL yep still at it. I ended up having to run all new electric and also add a 220v line for the pump. The pump(2hp), heater(2kw) and air switches were $$$ so that put me back some with Christmas. Glad to hear the monti is doing well. That thing grows like a weed once it takes off.

Mark, these fish are notoriously difficult to get to accept prepared foods, so where ever you get it from, make sure that you are getting one that has adjusted to captivity and is eating frozen mysis already. I had one when I was living in Wheeling, and he ate everything I gave him. Bought him from nyaquatic, and I gotta say that I was very happy with their prices and the quality of the animal I got. They advertised on their website that they wouldn't sell any animal unless it was eating frozen food. Also make sure that he has plenty of hiding places and a non-competitive environment, as regal's are easily intimidated and can be bullied into starvation by territorial fish. Best of luck to you, they are my absolute favorite fish, and if I had a 220 instead of a 60, you better believe I'd be getting one of these guys for sure.

Liveaquaria.com would be your best bet. Aquacon has horrible reviews on RC and the net. Wet Pets is fine but expensive. DFS liveaquaria is super and every fish comes with a 2 week guarantee. DFS Divers Den is even better if you can snag one on there, but they go quick.

My concern is that the animal would survive for more than the 2 week period and then not make it. I'd really consider finding a place that you can talk to the person sending it to you and ensuring that it is eating prepared foods...I'm not sure if liveaquaria does that or not, but it might be worth a shot.

For what it is worth, I bought my regal from Phishy Business in Columbus. They have their own "divers den" section online so I knew mine had been QTd and eating already.

I decided to spend my "grandma money" (actually from Dad) on some corals. A few days ago I visited Aquaworld for the first time. I was impressed with their selection of corals and frags, and their prices. I picked up a good sized Blastomussa merletti colony and an "Aussie" elegance, as well as a smallish maxima clam.

My tank is not really that blue, but I can't figure out how to sufficiently adjust the colour balance on my camera. Maybe it wasn't designed to remove as much blue as a Radium puts out. :-/

Try evaluating your white balance before taking a shot. Not sure where that would be in your camera's settings, but most of them have it somewhere. Usually you then have to take a shot of something white, the substrate generally works.
