What do montipora encrusting SPS lool like grown out??

Wow great pics everyone, melev you have inspired me to buy some Tyree sunset it looks beautiful compared to ORA's. Sugartooth has inspired me to find some pokerstar! Thanks a lot everone great pics! ps dave it looks like your green monti is being poured from a bucket.. very cool.

Encrusting montis are among my favorites.

I've tried scraping monti off back glass, not easy to get it to "lift", usually flakes in small pieces. I'm sure there is a method to it though.

wow wish i could get a frag of that!....

I have fragged both of those pictured a couple times. With a new razor blade you can cut the shape you want then slice it off the bottom in one peice.

wow...beautiful!

Here is my small colony of sunset. It's only about 4 inches across.

Do they need a lots of light? I have six bulbs T5 HO should I put them on the bottom?

My rainbow looks great about 21 inches away from a 250w MH. I don't have direct experience with T5 only, but I would think anywhere from low to mid tank.

i love love love encrusting monti. my caps grow like crazy in the middle of the tank and I just picked up quarter size sunset encrusting about 10 days ago. open and happy. I always put my stuff on the sand bed to begin then move around flow areas and then hope it likes where I "want" to mount it. (which is a vertical wall half way up the rock wall of a biocube 14 (please dont judge me. its fun to pull the ole' biocube out after years, scrub it down with ammonia and tell yourself "lets just do it really easy this time and it wont be a lot of work" lolol.) with the following....

ecoxotic panorama pro (1) white (1) blue white (1) blue magenta stunner strip. (stunner strip is new and might be giving be some extra algae growth or its cause i have no snails cause a hitchhicking mantis is eating them all!!)... media rack with chaeto and chemipure and mechanical medium (gotta rip chaeto in half every week). stock return. mp10 (left wall to right wall flow)

gutted a biocube hood. I also like the closed look and can also only manage a 14 gallon right now. dont worry, though!!! you guys will know the name SLIPPY STEVE over the next few years. its gonna get sick nasty and we'll all enjoy my projects.

long story short and to stay on subject. where do your encrusting montis like placement? any real common themes? extra flow? finicky on a param? i understand every single tank is different and what one coral may like in one tank may hate in another. I have an amazing and growing like crazy miami hurricane chalice (amazing blue with multi colored mouths) 2" from the water line. thing is loving life.

sorry. only cell pics for now. :( need to learn the canon G12, but the colors never come out right. so I just snap on the fly. here is the encrusting monti and a few other. I'll start a tank thread with the whole shpeal once I figure this mantis shrimp out and get some snails to eat some algae and retake pictures.

blues clues 2.0 (whatever you want to call it. i dont care the name) 3 new heads in the past month. next to them are the rastas. bought 2 and now and 9 heads of those. growing fast.

just the monti cap. forget the names of these two. this one is red with yellow polyps and the other is green with red polyps. my pictures colors are all just way

there is the miami hurricane chalice. it was like a little lego when I got it and now you can see how much its grown and it encrusting/shelving out. next to it is of course gsp, armor of gods and candy apple reds. that gives you an idea of how off these colors are in the pics. with all lighting on the candy apple reds are bright *** red.

ok ya sneaks.

This is what happens when an encrusting purple haze monti runs out of room, there was another coral growing where the phone was, the coral to the left is an efflo
