quiet down the pumps in your sump? I have a mag 7 running on my skimmer and the vibration noise is really loud. Is there any product I can buy to put under the pump to quiet down the vibration against the glass? I cant hear the TV, help me!

Two things:

1) Put something under the pump so it's not resting directly on the bottom of the sump. A ziplock full of sand seems to work, and if it gets in to the tank you know it won't cause problems. I'm always nervous about how reef safe different rubber compounds might be.

2) Isolate the pump from plumbing/equipment by using a short piece of soft flexible hose instead of just hard PVC between the pump and the rest of the world.

I use a rubber Matt that is food safe and has a wide temperature range tolerance. I think it's 30A Duroneter. I use it under my return pump, my skimmer, and in my salt mixing vat. The reduction in noise is significant and it makes vibration all but undetectable.

Where did you get yours?

I currently have "Darice Foamies 9''x12'' 6mm Foam Sheets" under my mag pump. I found them one day about 2 years ago at Joann's and thought why not..

I always use a polyfilter... Great for absorbing vibration and great for absorbing Copper in case of an accidental heater break. Replace it every 6 months, great insurance policy for about $20 a year.

Ha! That's an AWESOME idea!!! I have a bunch of that poly laying around too! The big thick stuff!

I used apiece of rubber from McMaster-Carr (9109K631) on two of my internal pumps and it worked great 1/4" Neoprene Rubber 10a durometer
