what do you feed your blue tang? mines loves his brine shrimp but i know tangs are vegatariens. i put roman let. in for my yellow tang and he thinks its thanksgiving but i never really see my blue tang eating eat. any suggestions

For one, Romaine has very little nutritional value and can also be detrimental if it's not frozen or boiled quickly to break down the cells. Secondly, Hepatus tangs are Planktivores when young and Omnivores as the grow so don't feed them like they're a herbivore.

Mysis, formula 1 and 2 frozen/flake, spirulina flake, scallop, raw shrimp, clam, plankton, squid, etc. All dry foods were soaked in selcon or vita cem.

I feed my powder blue tang Seaweed Selects, Brown, and Green marine algae. He also eats omega one pellets with garlic. If he goes a couple weeks with out marine algae he starts getting aggressive and thin. He stays healthy on seaweed selects.

Interesting. How long have you had him? I never give mine any dried algae. He's as thick as my thumb. Does he not have any algae at all in the tank for him to feed on?

I feed mine the following. I soak everything minus the flake food in garlic and selcon.

PE mysis
Live Brine
Formula 1
Prime Reef flakes
Nori twice a day

Mines very thick and healthy. Ive had this fish for 2 years. It was the size of a nickel when I got it.

Thats Exactly right. Hepatus are NOT algae grazers like some of the other tangs are; they feed primarily on free floating zooplankton. Not to say that some green is detrimental, but they arent as likely as most to eat strips of Nori, Hair Algae, etc. If you want some greenery in their diet (especially as they mature) try some veggie flakes, or a frozen food like Formula 1 or 2, both of which have a combination of vegetation with protein.

FWIW, same rules apply for most Naso species. Tang doesnt automatically mean algae grazer.

Not to derail the thread which I know is about hippo tangs, but for reference, this is how a PBT should be filled out...
