What do you think of this UPS backup battery?

It *might* last you an hour. Also, it's unlikely that it produces a proper sine wave so you may have problems with it driving your pump.

Ic,, so what can I get that would power my powerhead (8 watts power head) for like 5-6 hours?

I'd also like to put one of my Koralia 4's on a powerhead that is battery operated in case the power runs out. What would you all recommend be the cheapest but best option for this. Live in a duplex so a generator is a no go since there is no garage or porch or anything.

To run apump yo will need Pure sine wave power. Regular UPS will not deliver that. The APC Smart UPS line will deliver that power but they are more expensive.

I have a APC 1000VA Smart UPS that runs three Koralias (2 #1 and 1 #2) for eight hours. You can find these UPS used at ebay for a fraction of their cost. I paid $100 for mine inclusding shipping but you wil have to watch them and be patient to get a good deal.

I agree. Best cheap solution is battery operated air pumps. Best solution is a generator. Best very expensive solution is a automatic start generator running on natural gas.

8 hours? :lolspin: I have three of the apc 1500s. Two of them have new batteries, and they run a koralia 4 for maybe 4 hrs. The beeping annoyed me after 2.5 hrs, and it only had 1 out of 5 bars left. Plus the things pull 17 watts just keeping a charge.

The apc from walmart, I would be willing to bet it is a stepped sine wave for that price. We pay $1200 for the apc-1500

That makes me kind of nervous to spend 250 dollars on it if it is only going to last maybe about 4 hours.. Is it really worth it I wonder

That sucks about the storm, I would buy an inverter if you are able to stay home, and run it off of the car in an emergency.. You could also just try to get a few battery air pumps if you don't think temp will be an issue.. I wish you the best!

I would get a generator. You can get one from home depot for about $400,
then you can run your tank and your refridgerator and anything else.

But if you have the means I would recommend paying a little extra for something with the power. A gen is one of the most useful things you can buy.... especially if you see storms like that often.

There is something wrong with your Koralias or your UPS.

A Koralia 4 uses 12 watts. Using the APC UPS Selector a 12w appliance connected to a 1500VA UPS the battery should last for 606 minutes = 10 hours! That is just using one and you have 3!

To determine the size of UPS you need use the APC UPS selector.
