What do you think of this UPS backup battery?

There is something wrong with your Koralias or your UPS.

A Koralia 4 uses 12 watts. Using the APC UPS Selector a 12w appliance connected to a 1500VA UPS the battery should last for 606 minutes = 10 hours! That is just using one and you have 3!

To determine the size of UPS you need use the APC UPS selector.

That's great math except for one thing -- you are ignoring the power the APC is consuming for itself. APC doesn't spec their devices for such small loads so their calculators are wrong. This is based on over ten years working in tech full-time, managing a rack of high end APC UPSes with expansion batteries, etc.

Sorry man, this is reality. The only way you'll get any extended runtime is more and more batteries and those sealed cells that the UPSes use just don't have the brass. You need deep cycle batteries. Look up forklift and golf cart batteries -- they're 6V typically, so you'll need two -- but now you're talking about a lot of reserve power. Then get the smallest most efficient inverter you can find and you should do OK for a few days.

Good luck.

I would get a generator. You can get one from home depot for about $400,
then you can run your tank and your refridgerator and anything else.

Yeah, no such thing as a generator around here right now. Belive me I have looked. The entire state of NJ is sold out. I managed to get a 750w power inverter, and I have a Smart-Ups 1000 also. I figure if needed I can run the inverter for 1 or two hrs a few times per day and things should be ok.

Now I understand, APC calculator is wrong and the stop watch I used to test the duration of my UPS with the Koralias was also wrong.

You should also understand how Ah are rated. 15 Ah or 1500 va is nothing but a nice number on the front when it comes to how long the thing will last. Performance drops off drastically with age. lol
