Looking into (2) different tanks. I can get both for around the same price.

#1 a 40g Breeder with built in overflow or
#2 a 50g 48Lx15Wx16H shallow tank with built in overflow.

What do you guys think?

depends on what you want to do with it

i say go bigger to start you will be happy you did

Breeder tanks are excellent for aquascaping. The front to back distance is much nicer than a tank that is only 15"wide.

I think it also depends on the livestock you plan on keeping in it as well. Another thing to look at is the type of built-in overflow too. Space will be limited on both.

What livestock? That should help you decide. If mainly corals I'd go with the 40. If mainly fish I'd want the extra depth...

I would go based on what you want to stock. I have seen some really nicely done 40G breeders, but depending on what you want to keep and the space you have, the longer tank could also be cool. What kinds of fish and corals are you wanting?
