i got my RBT anout 5 days ago. He looked terrible the first day. Gaping mouth, and deflated. Then for the last three days or so he looked good. Woutldnt eat as of two days ago. But he was puffed up. Still had a gaping mouth. Then today he kicked out some brown waste, and since then hasnt puffed back up. He dissapeared behind some rock where there wasnt any flow or light and he was on his side in the back so i put him in the front in shade and where there is no flow but where i can easily see him. He is all deflated and his mouth is gaping. Here is some pics. Sorry for the bad quatlity. My phone is crappy at underwater pics. the first two pics are of when i got him and then the last two are of right now. To my knowledge his mouth has been gapping since i got him. He was however looking good the last few days.

It looks ok. Usually when you buy them the first couple of days or week you have them they will deflate and inflate to get rid of the old water they where in and acclimate to your tank.

From the pictures it looks ok. I can't tell if the mouth is gaping. Do you best not to move it at all as it will stress it out.

When you bought it did it look healthy? Was it attached to something? Was it's mouth gaping?

What type/amount of light do you have? Did you acclimate it to your light?

while you are waiting for lance to respond after you tell him those things, cordon off a section of tank for him without the clown...if he's stressed, the clown wont help!

It looked good when i got it. It is under about 450watts T5. It wasnt attached to anything. Its mouthg didnt appear to be gaping. I dont really know how i would acclimate it to my light.. And the clown in the pic is gone. He was on the anemone for about the irst two hours of it being in the tank. After that i got her out. She is in another tank for the time being.

As of now, it is looking a lot better than it did before. I think that there is no longer anything serious to worry about. I would just start to feed it now, and make sure it is eating.

From your newest pictures, the rbta is moving and seems to be ok. I would let him find a spot then try feeding it.

450 watts of T-5s? I guess you meant 432 watts- 8x 54watt 48'' tubes. (I am surprised a lfs had such good lighting over them)

What type of lighting do you have?

oh im sorry that is the lgithing i had. They had i think hallides over them. BUt i dont know the wattage.

This morning is had the diameter of about a silver dollar and his mouth is still gapping and he is totally deflated. He is in the back of the tank. However the ligtyhs just came on. Will they deflate at night?

It's truely amazing the physical changes they go through. I've freaked out more than once. Just watch it and feed it. I use prime reef because it holds together.

IME it doesn't matter whether its day or night if they deflate. It usually last max an hour for mine and they are inflated again. They do it once or twice a week, if I notice it.

That's not good if the mouth is gapping. Is it attached to anything?

Dont move it, let it go where it wants to. Moving it will only stress it out more. Let it settle in more then try to feed it. Be careful not to overfeed it. I fed mine krill, clams, mysis, and formual 1. Chop the food up really well so the anemone doesnt have to work to hard to eat it, I soaked the food in selcon, or vita chem as well.
