What do you use to attatch sps frags?

I have been using 'Super Glue Gel' since i went all sps in my old 210g but I am unhappy with its' lasting strength. Any alternatives that are stronger, yet still reef safe?

i have used many types of super glue gel, and found that for some reason loctite brand gel seems to be the strongest, fastest drying and holds pretty much indefinitely if you use a big enough blob of it. you can buy it in 10 gram tubes also which helps.

I've been using the Boston aqua gel glue. It holds great, and I can use the tube underwater when i need to.

I don't mind spending extra for Loctite Gel, either. I could save a lot more buying the larger IC-Gel tubes, but I can't quite master its use:lol: Glue seems to get everywhere with those tubes and bottles:(

i have done a couple of group buys here locally on the loctite which comes out to 6 tubes for the price of 4. if interested in the company info that i bought from, shoot me a pm and i will pass it along.

Thanks, Gresh! Are you running a course for the adhesively challenged ?

Seems like I am the only one who prefers 2 part putty. I have never had any problem with rtn and have mounted over 30 frags with it as well at 20 lg acros. It is nice because you can press it into a nook in the live rock. First I wrap the frag on the bottom then find a hole in live rock. Done and it stays, I really have tried both, super glue and aqua-stick putty and prefer the putty. I have had too many frags fall off over the 1st month with super glue.

Well....3 of my frags have come loose and i used 'Loctite Gel'??
I have decent flow in my reef, so i guess i need something stronger, as i gave them each a good amount and held to rock for a minute or so each. ((all frags are either on small pieces of liverock or calcium based cubes...then attached to the rock work))

What type of putty exactly?

Is that something found only online like Salty Critter...or would a Lowe's or hardware store carry it? When i got the Loctite i looked for the IC Gel and there was none and no tags with empty shelf either.
thanks

I use the Loc gel and Putty. Depends on the situation. I have at times used both. Putty to make a base that fits perfectly in place and then I glue in place. In general big frags get Putty little ones get Gel.

I use the sandwich method, it works great for the larger frags and top heavy colonies...super glue gel/two part putty/super glue gel. Put super glue gel on the bottom of the two part putty mixture and then a big gob of the super glue gel on the top and stick the frag into it, then stick the whole thing in the water and attach to the spot until the super glue gel on the bottom sets up and the putty/gel on the top sets up enough to hold the frag in place. I set up a rather large top heavy colony 5"x 5" colony 4" tall this way hanging out over space so it would table out. It is holding just fine. I did have to hold it in place for about 10 minutes then I stuck a rock on top of the base and putty overnight to make sure it stayed in place. the sandwich method works great when you need a little more sticking/staying power than the super glue gel alone can give you :D
