What does a bubble tip looks like before it splits?

I have a GBTA, and it moved down under where it usually stays last nite. It reattached really low on the rocks. It is really puffed up. It is not extended at all except for on one portion. Other that that it looks like a red ballon about the size of a grapefruit!! I don't know if this is a sign of stress from splitting or otherwise. How long will it take to split if it is indeed splitting? It is acting strange but I notice no tears in its body, and It has securely attached itself to the bottom of a rock in a cave I dont think I can get a pic of it where it is now. If it moves out at all, I will get a pic of it and post it. Thanks in advance for any help.

My GBTA split about 3 weeks ago. It moved to a dark spot, and I couldn't see it's mouth, because it was facing the back of the tank. But I could see that it had its foot on one high and one low rock, and then it started ripping itself in half. It took about 12 hours to complete.

It was not an even split - one is much larger than the other. I added a small true percula the day before the split, and it started the hosting the smaller of the two the day after the split. It's still hosting it, and the smaller one has stayed in a darker place in the back of the tank. The larger one went back up to the top of the rocks in my halide tank, while the smaller stays shaded all the time.
 
Thank you for the link and the info. Unfortunatly mine is in the back corner also, so I can only see the reflection of it. The foot is HUGE it is definately expanding and contracting a bit. maybe writhing would be a better term. it looks to have tentacles facing out on opposing sides, and none extended in the middle.
 
couple weeks, parameters are good, and it has been acting fine since I got it. Tank is 2 months old with massively overkill filtration and live rock (40lbs. in 20 gallons, and 20 lb. live sand).
 
Is the rock/sand out of your 120?

If it's all new, it may be rough for that anemone for the next several months.
 
its all cured rock. I can't tell what it is doing. It is expanding and contracting, but not expanding out when it is expanding. the tube gets huge and bulbous and it looks like it is trying to split up the middle , but I really can't see what is going on. It is still tucked away in the rocks.

I assume the coloration is good on it, that it's been stable in one spot since it settled in, and that it has eaten OK.

ie - any reason to think it's not healthy?

They do deflate from time to time, and that's no big deal. You probably should only have fed it about 5-10 times total if you've had it less than a month now.

If it's splitting, you'll know soon enough. :) Mine had an oblong mouth and pinched in perpendicular to it 2 months before it ever split. I thought it was splitting when I saw it doing - here's a pic. Note how it has tentacles perpendicular to the elongated mouth.

Sorry no pics of the split itself - my digital camera crapped out before it did it, and I haven't developed the film yet from the 35mm.
 
I actually never have noticed anything different when mine have split, they just split. All of a sudden there are two anemones. Maybe I have not paid attention and I have had dozens split but I never noticed anything different. I honestly have had clones split when they were huge in size and small and all from the same parent. My green bta is huge right now and has not split. I have had this one for maybe 6 years and it has split many times at a much smaller size. My buddy also has a rose that split many times and now it is huge and has not split in a long time.

Every time mine has swellled up, it basically stands up erect and swells it has spawned and it is a male. I know that sounded bad but that is the truth and is the best way to describe it...

today it has moved out where I can see it. It is still acting wierd. seems as though it is trying to get one side of the foot on the glass and one on the rock, maybe jsut wishful thinking though. It is pretty full and out today. When I can get a glimpse of its mouth, it is not gaping. There might even be two mouths. can't really see what going on in there :(
 
Usually when mine split (and I am able to see the process), the RBTA basically stretches its foot until it pulls itself apart (have seen it across two rocks, one large rock, and from one rock to the aquarium glass). Hopefully that is all it is up to (I usually let a system stabilize for at least a year before introducing anemones, etc., so I don't know if there is an environmental problem). Good luck!!!!
