What exactly is Purigen?

I'm not exactly sure how effective it is, but ive been running purigen since i started. I like to know I have some form of "insurance" in case something is out of the norm.

What exactly is it? Not sure either, but I believe forms of nitrogen binds (absorbs) to the material.

You don't need to replace it, you can recharge it and reuse. It is a very simple precess, that is what makes it economical to use. I just started using it a few weeks ago so we will see how it goes.

how do you recharge it, you mean wash off or something else?

bake it in the oven I believe

I thought it had to do with bleach....

Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container in a well ventilated area and away from children. Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of ChlorGuard™, Prime®, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well.

From the seachem forums here

I stand corrected, I thought I heard you could bake it as well, like the phosphate removers...

I think there are a few different methods but this is the one I always see recommended by seachem.

The thing with the BC is the 100ml bags are only $8 a pop so I'm not even going to mess with recharging it.

Were do you get em? Cause the link that I have are a bit more.

It is like a synthetic carbon. I will have some at your swap in 2 weeks....not sure how fast you need it.
Each recharge it loses approx 50% of its useful life, so it will exhaust itself fairly quickly.
