I have a 29gallon biocube I am cycling, and I am thinking about placing a future order of fish from liveaquaria to skip the QT process and not support the deathly fish at my LFS's.. any reccomendations of fish?? I am planning on covering the top so nothing can jump. I would love to hear some combinations

Tail spot blenny, or maybe a panda goby depending on your lighting. I've heard they need a pocillopora to hang out in.

No matter your source, QT should be performed on all fish for 6-8 weeks. LiveAquaria and Diver's Den both recommend it, even if purchasing from them.

A tail spot blenny would be a great choice. I'd also look into the Swales Swissguard or Caribbean Swissgaurd basslets.

Doing the same size tank my list, for the moment, is 1xBiclor Blenny, 3x Pajama Cardinal fish , 1xCleaner shrimp, and a Matted Filefish.

okay, i would suggest smaller fish like blennies, gobies, clowns, damsels, etc... do not skip the QT even when ordering online from reputable sources, you still never know what you could be putting in your tank.

okay firstly, that is too many fish. the bicolor blenny would be okay, i would not get 3 pajama cardinals because they do get fairly large. possibly two. and definitely no to the matted filefish. they need at least 40 gallons.

Personably, i love mandarins. But if you have even thought about them, you know you have to have a healthy population of copepods, (microscopic bug like creature, which the mandarins eat). I have had success with Ocean Nutrition Instant Brine which i feed my seahorses, but that should be a fall back. You could probably get a mandarin and 1-2 other SMALL fish. my mandarin is about 5in now, but they grow slow. I also suggest a purple firefish and a cleaner shrimp. :)

how many jawfish do you think could make it in a 29gal?? and if i could get 1-3, could they make it with a pair of clowns??

probably a jawfish or two. and i dont see them having a problem with clowns, theyll each pick their own territories in the tank. just make sure you have a deep enough sandbed or make them a burrow

my 29g has 2 snowflake clowns (very small), one purple striped dottyback (baaad impulse buy) and one longnose hawkfish. except for the dottyback, they will soon all be going into my 75g.

and do you realyl have to QT liveaquaria fish?? i thought they were known to gaurentee you completely healthy fish, and also QT the fish themselves thoroughly

well everyone should QT their fish. thats why they do it too, but its essential in getting fish to get used to its new environment and food, especially after shipping like from liveaquaria. they could be carrying parasites, like ich (cryptocaryon irritans) that can be dormant for periods of time. this recovery process is especially vital in fish that have been shipped and are stressed out from that. plus, if they do happen to be sick, its easier to medicate the quarantine than the display tank.

5 fish in 17+- gallons of water. 3 will get large, hum.

Where did you get 17 gallons? Half of his tank will be displaced with substrate and rock? 3 of his fish will get large? The cardinals? For what it's worth I think there will be no size difference between the cardinals and the filefish. So perhaps you think they get larger than they actually do?

As to the above stocking, I think you'd be okay if you replaced the filefish with something itty bitty.
My tank (same size) has a 1 1/3" blue damsel, a 3" waspfish, and a 1 1/4" shrimpgoby, plus the 2-3" pistol shrimp. I would feel comfortable adding 1-3 more fish, provided they stayed 2" or under, but my waspy ate the Hector's goby I tried to add, so I'm just leaving it alone for now. I plan to add one nice molly and another tiger pistol shrimp, then I'll just leave it at that.
Just my 2cents... Stocking depends on how much live rock you have, what the personalities involved are, what non-fish stock you have, and how often you do water changes, plus others. It can be really complicated.
