What happened? Short circuit? coincidence?

We had a tank meltdown today and as a result ended up doing a massive water change. We think the cause was a pump in the refugium shorted out which caused most of our corals to melt which turned the water cloudy. Anyway, in the process of changing the water, I switched off our wavebox (we have the the 6212 and the 6091 controller) from the power strip, we changed out the water, I turned the switch back on and.... nothing. Everything came back on except for the wavebox. So, what broke? The pump? The controller? The power supply? How can I find the broken piece so I can replace it? Help!

Thanks!

Hi Kristi, first please double check the connections between the power supply and the pump and between the controller and the pump. After that, unplug the power supply and disconnect the controller. Now plug the power supply back in and see if the pump is spinning. If it is, then it may be a problem with the controller (or its cable or connections). If it isn't, then take the pump out of the wavebox, remove the cover and inspect the drive unit for any damage.

Let me know how that goes and we'll take it from there!

not the controller

not the controller

I checked the controller - followed your instructions and took it out of the mix, still not working. I will have to wait until tomorrow to get the pump out of the wavebox but wanted to give you an update in the meantime :)

Thanks!

must be the pump :(

must be the pump :(

I disassembled the pump today and nothing looks broken. I cleaned it up and plugged it in and got nothing. So it looks like the pump is out. I guess I'll be buying a replacement?

Thanks,
Kristi

Hi Kristi,

It sounds like it's either the pump or the power supply. If you have a spare power supply to try, that would be the easiest option. Otherwise please send in the pump, power supply and controller (we don't need the wavebox box.) Send to:

Tunze USA
305 Victor Street
Austin, TX 78753

Please include a note in the box with your contact information as well as a brief description of the problem. We'll take a look and let you know what needs to be done.

Hoping it's the power supply :)

Hoping it's the power supply :)

I don't have a spare so I'll send the pump and power supply asap.
Thank you so much for your help!

Kristi
