What happened to Ozone in our sps tanks?

Perhaps I am way off base here, but I very rarely hear of anyone using ozone generators on their sps reefs. Is there a reason for this?

If you do run ozone, I would like to hear about your experience.

I'm no expert by any means, but I think that since ozone is detrimental to bacteria run nitrate/phosphate reduction methods such as Zeovit, and biopellets it has lost some of it's benefits in the hobby. I've never used it myself.

I use it. It helps keep water clear of compounds that can reduce light penetration, so I think it's a nice component of a SPS reef.

I used to on my old system it worked well. With this new system I'm trying to limit the amount of equipment so I haven't bought another ozone unit this time around. Even if I were to want to get one, I don't know how I would add it. I don't have a sump, and I don't know if my tunzee 9002 is ozone safe. Plus it will make the house stink, running it in the garage was fine, but the house gets locked down pretty tight to keep warm for winter.

Too many people trying the "Bacteria Craze" is basically leading to the lessening use of ozone. It can only be one or the other. I am recently guilty myself.

Beside how can you not have fun standing by your tank with a fifth of vodka saying " One for you, one for me. One for you , one for me" Can't do that with ozone.

This is not correct. I vodka dose. The amount of ozone used does not interfere with the functionality of the vodka and subsequent bacterial growth in the water column.

Ya, I dosed vodka, and ran ozone in conjunction as well on my older system. Think of it as an extra safety net in case of bac bloom.

Still using ozone here. I guess it's not discussed as much because no one has discovered some new faddish way to dose it yet. Give 'em time. :)

hmm good point we should start a rumor about how replacing drier beads with biopellets is the newest coolest thing.
