What Has Happened????

from what i have noticed and seen before its an easier way to id something then green with red skirst there could be 4 different variations but with a name its been labeled and done with. i think its fine i dunno why everyone thinks its awful why have name for any corals at all its just going to be sps lps and softies. you can only get so anal about so much before someone decides well if you wanna take it that far about crying about names there just gonna go over board on names an labeling.

you have nothing better to do other than whine about something being labeled. give me a break just be happy that they're still an interest and people are into the colors along with names. say i want somethign blue someone can give a list of blues with an id to look at other than go look at some blue ones end of story

be happy people...

Again, I think the ID forum is working perfectly and a lot of people are very happy with it.

I don't see anyone whining here... I think the name thing is a little silly and people go overboard with it. However, I use the names because they're an easy way for people to know what you're talking about. But, it goes back to the old statement "everything in moderation". It got to the point in this forum that it was dominated with people asking for IDs and what was once a fun goofy thing (naming zoanthids) had become a bit of a nuisance with way too much importance placed upon it.

Lastly, and this might ruffle a few feathers, but I think there are too many people on this forum that expect to be spoon fed information. The fact that it's difficult to not use the search function if you're not a premium member just makes matters worse. Yes, sharing information with posts is what this forum is all about. But the 1000th person asking to have his Fire and Ice zoanthids ID'ed isn't exactly doing much good for the forum. I don't blame people for wanting IDs, but boy am I glad that I don't have to sift through 10 ID threads to find one useful thread anymore.

In short, a lot of the people got tired of this section of the forum because it was the same thing over and over again and there wan't much good information shared. Hopefully we can get back to more useful information now that the ID stuff is confined to another area.

Very well said Peter and Mucho! I agree 100 per cent. I even stopped coming to this form for a while because all it was, was ID's and how much for these questions. I don't have a problem with people naming thier zoo's but they're still zoo's still need the same care. Okay I'll get off my soapbox now. Let's get back to disscussing ways to keep our beautiful zoo's alive and healthy.

I have not frequented this forum for a while, and can't say that I've missed it... Whenever I'm bored, I'll check in here to see if there are any interesting threads worth posting on... Most of those that do interest me have the same few thread starters... I agree that its up to those of us that have more experience to somewhat stear the discussion... I will say however that sometimes discussions turn into criticism of one anothers' opinions and that is another reason I haven't posted as much in this forum... I just think its important to remember that there is no correct way to keep zoanthids/reefs... Everyone will have different lighting/skimmers/substrate/etc...... We should share in our successes and failures, and not argue about them...

I don't understand why people don't like zoas being named? It seems to me just an easy way to identify them rather than trying to describe the various colors of a particular zoa you're trying to discuss, show off, sell, cure or whatever.

Anybody that's paid any attention to them at all probably can picture many of the common names in their head by now. I find it helpful.

I think that the naming is most important to those who wish to buy/sell/trade. This way, they know what they are looking for.

I have some zoas in my tank that I don't know if they have names or not. If I wanted to sell/trade frags off them, I wouldn't know what to list them as or what to price them at. IMO, naming helps in this respect.
If you just want a tank full of colors and don't plan on selling/trading, then who cares what they are as long as they are colorful.
