What have you done with your tank lately?

Nice work, Nick:beer:

You set the bar pretty high Dave, she wants a basement like yours.

I'm trying to get her (somewhat) involved. She feeds the fish when I work overnights, and if she see's the aquarium as a source of relaxation, she might get more into it. Once she gets more into it and the kids get older, (and I get my basement back), I'd love to get a 250-ish gallon tank to put in what is now the kids play room, with the sump and all the support equipment on the unfinished side. Right now, everything is on the unfinished side.

After I get the NO3 down and stable, I want to buy some acro frags. I've got a list of frags I'm looking for.

So here's a few pictures of some of my SPS I got at last years swap. The Tri-colored Acro I got from Phiff just started liking my 90g and shows some growth at last.

a nice red and purple monti, really shines.

My cleaner station lol, they love those two chalices.

a side shot, I'm still working on dosing and balancing my feeding.

One day I will be able to make it a SLASH Frag swap....I swear, it's like the SLASH Board gets together with work and coordinates things so I'm guaranteed to be working for the day of the Frag Swap...

Well its not like you've had 4 months or more to request the day off or anything.:headwally:

Well its not like you've had 4 months or more to request the day off or anything.:headwally:

Unfortunately, even if I had planned off, one of the guys from work got hurt and now we're short handed. Vacation days have even been cancelled due to this so, I'd still be missing this one.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make the next one.

Today I:
Calibrated my pH Probes

Tested my parameters-
DkH - 7.0 (Salifert)
Ca - 415 (Salifert)
Mg - 1365 (Salifert)
NO3 - 25 ppm (Salifert)
PO4 - 0.04 (Hanna Photometer 96713)
pH - 8.15

NO3 is too high...lost a tester acro to STN. So I cleaned out and moved over my ARID E18 Reactor from the FSP tanks to the 120.

Added two cleaner shrimp, (Lysmata amboinensis).

Moved my Yellow Tang and Tomini Tang over to the 120 from the FSP tanks.

Wife came home from work and the kids immediately started stressing us both out. I poured her a glass of wine, and sat her in front of the tank for 10 minutes while gave the kids a bath. Wife said it calmed her down immediately and that it was relaxing.

Mission accomplished.

Tested my NO3 and PO4 again.

NO3 was well over 50 ppm closing in on 100 ppm.
PO4 had risen to 0.17 ppm from 0.04 ppm.

I increased the photo-period of the ARID reactor from 8 hours to 12 hours. Chaeto growth has been excellent already, just need to get more to start putting a dent in the NO3/PO4 levels.

Up until recently, NO3 was barely readable via Salifert, and PO4 was undetectable to Hanna 96713 photometer. I attribute this increase to the "heavy" fish load and frequent feedings.

Current fish load:

1 Small Regal Angel Approx 2.75 inches
1 Small Flame Angel, Approx 2 inches
1 Scribbled Rabbitfish, Approx 5 inches
1 Med Christmas Wrasse, Approx 3.5 inches
1 Med Pintail Fairy Wrasse, Approx 3.5 inches
1 Med Tomini Tang, Approx 3.5 inches
1 Med Yellow Tang, Approx 3.5 inches
1 pair of mated Darwin Black Ocellaris clowns
1 large H.magnifica anemone
1 small pair of Scarlett Cleaner Shrimp
1 Small H.crispa anemone
1 med Porcelain crab, (suspect it's male)
1 small blue Squamosa clam approx 2.25 inches

1 orange plate coral
1 small colony of blasto Wellsi, (big polyp blasto)
1 small colony of blasto merlotti, (small polyp blasto)
1 small frag of Superman montipora
some Zoa frags.

Food is a mix of Rods, Hikari Mysis, Hikari Spirulina enriched brine shrimp, and Larry's Reef Frenzy. This mix is fed twice a day. A strip of dried Nori is fed to the fish every day as well. No nipping from either of the angels at all. I'm placing this on the heavy frequent feedings that occur. All fish are fat and happy.

Once I get NO3 and PO4 levels under control, (and I expect the ARID to bring the levels down pretty soon once the chaeto catches up to the amount of nutrients available), I will start stocking SPS.

I moved most of the swap frags to my DT tonight, I mounted the SPS mid to top of tank and set my LEDs to do a 14 day light ramp up back to normal. I'm really so happy with those Nanook frags, man they are healthy. The polyps on the starburst monti are freaking crazy amazing! I got a tiny coral from a vendor that I can't ID. I thought it was a bright vivid green cheapish shroom but after dipping and removing the plug it's not a shroom at all but like a hard tiny plate coral that was glued to a plug by mistake, maybe tongue coral. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I know my tanks not all-pro :D I do have some turf and a tiny bit of slime on one rock (flow problem) but here's some pic's of corals around my tank. The small round green one needs an ID, I think it might be a tongue coral.
need ID :D

One of the cherry coral chalice frags I got at the swap. The golds really glow

A cool blue&red chalice from last years swap. I'm hoping to frag this for the CDP at the next swap.

My new sunburst monti, classic blasto's from a single head I got a while back and a random monti.

I'm starting to dose this week, fingers crossed!

Cheers,

What are you starting to dose?
2 part or something more like Aqua Forest or Triton?

I'm going to start with Redsea reef growth A and B and see how it works out. I'm sitting at about 380 Ca, and 1300 Mg with a 30-40ish drop if I'm tracking it right.

any suggestions or tips?

I'm inexperienced in dosing....I've used either a calcium reactor or Kalk in the past. Currently my Calcium and Alk consuming critters load is so small I can maintain just with monthly water changes.

However, I'm seriously considering going to a doser instead of a reactor this go around. I've been watching several of the Aquaforest driven tanks and several of the Triton method tanks....and they all look great, so it's tempting.

But I already have a calcium reactor, pH controllers, tanks and basic regulator....so it's not something I need.

That's why I was asking you what you were going with. Just trying to get some other opinions and see what decisions others have made and why...

I have done Kalk in the past in my ATO. I got a new 6g ATO top off box that is a bit harder to get out and clean. I had a rubber bin before that was super easy to wash out weekly. I'm hoping the Dosing is easy up keep.

I goofed last week when I posted my NO3 levels. I was looking through the side of the Salifert test instead of through the top. NO3 was never anywhere near 100ppm, it was at 50 ppm though.

The ARID continues to destroy NO3 levels and PO4.

Measured both today, (NO3 properly this time...:hmm2:).

NO3 was still high, between 25ppm and 50ppm, but much closer to 25 ppm.
PO4 measured 0.08 ppm down from 0.17 on 09-13-16.

At this rate, I expect PO4 levels to bottom out by next week. The tough part will be maintaining a low but readable level of PO4 in the system.

I posted this picture on Friday in the Full Tank Shot Friday thread, but it seemed like I post it up here too.
