What have you done with your tank lately?

Beautiful wrasses, Nick! Bummer about the 58 leaking! One of the best tanks ever.

Craptastic Ipotato pic of female before she dove into the sand:

Didnt even get to take those of the male before he hide...so here are pics from the store:

Those are actually close to life size images of the male....
I saw the photos of when these came in...beautiful fish.

They were only out for a little bit in my system and then dove into the sand to get away from all the attention. They were eating very well in the store, and I've never had an issue with getting a halochoeres wrasse to eat, but I'm curious to see how they do.

Because I rotate shifts, my photoperiod is set to run from 3pm to 11pm. This gives me a chance to do any maintenance to the tank with the least disruption to the fish and inverts, no matter what shift I'm on. With the tank being in the basement, it stays pretty dark until the lights come on. So I'll see how they're doing in a couple of hours...

Next big thing is to organize cords and set up the Apex that's been sitting in the box since Black Friday. Might have to steal thabizness's ideas on doing that....

Got some more craptastic Ipotato pics of the Earmuffs today....I really need to bust out the good camera...

Both...to show size comparison:

Female sorta processed via Ipotato widgets. Cant really see it, but she has a rosey pink hint to her lower scales:

Male (Ipotato Processed):

Under Radions with my phone acting like they're black lights:

Both ate today with the female taking pellets....

Brought the real camera and took some better photographs. Still not award winning, but definitely better than the Ipotato.

Female Earmuff

Best shot of the Male Earmuff thus far....it's not sharp and he was moving fast...

Flame Angel

Scribbled Rabbitfish (Siganus doliatus)

Regal Angel

Same image, just cropped out the background and didnt reduce the size as much.

Horrible photo of my porcelain crab and one of my H.magnifica anemones. The crab came in as a hitchiker with the anemone. Had them both for 5.5 years.

Earmuff's continue to do well, both are now eating pellets and adapted to my photo period.

How has you experience been with the doliatus? Mine has been a model citizen so far and eliminated every speck of hair and bubble algae from the display. First one to the top at every feeding.

Same as yours. Great fish and very mild. Largest fish in the tank at 5 plus inches in length, doesnt bother anyone else in the tank. Better than tangs for algae control IMO/IME, and need less room for swimming as well.

How had your beautiful Regal been with your corals? It is at the top of the list of fish that I want. Great shots. You have me wanting a pair of earmuffs too!

It's still a Juvi, so things could still change...but right now it's been perfect.
This is the third one I've kept over the years.
First one I had for a year, then my H.magnifica anemone wandered into a powerhead and shredded the tentacles, releasing nematocysts and killing all fish except the clowns.

The next was with me for almost 8 years til I screwed up a hypo treatment for ich. It was fine with corals, clams, and zoas til about the 3.5 year mark and then zoas and clams were devoured like candy. Never really touched SPS or LPS. And I didnt feed very heavy back then.

I've had this one almost a year, feed heavy,(at least twice a day), and it doesnt pay attention to LPS, SPS, and Zoas. Lost my blue Squamosa clam around Oct for unknown reasons, but the Angels had nothing to do with it's death. I never saw any nipping from either Regal or the flame towards it.

Now, in 2.5 years, I might be saying something completely different....

As far as the Earmuffs go...I'm honestly surprised at how docile they are for a Halochoeres wrasse. They're so laid back, it's ridiculous. The Christmas wrasse,(H.ornatissimus), was much more aggressive, and it was the size of the female earmuff.

All my halochoeres wrasse are quite docile. The dusky likes to come up to the top of the tank and rub up against my finger. I think he thinks it's a trigger for food.

My Christmas wrasse, (H.ornatissimus) was pretty obnoxious towards my Pintail Fairy Wrasse, but that was the only he fish in the tank he didnt like. These two are so docile its interesting to watch as they cruise past the peppermint shrimp, the hermits, the anemone crab, and the cleaner shrimp.....

Lots of opportunities for mayhem for them, but no action from them.

got the new apex wifi yesterday.

Crap lightning storm is my guess. woke up and all lights are off nothing running but main pump and reactor.

I must say it does seem to work much better remotely than the old one.

How much does that cost?

retail they are 800 bucks.
All I know is when your in a panic. knowing its probably not going to work unless I send it in for repair. I couldn't wait. But, you know as well as many here, on a very large system you don't have a choice. No way could I be down for a week or two.

Turned on and off many times. No screen on the display. and couldn't log in through my pc. all the lights on the unit worked. But other than that it seemed dead.

Lost all my profiles and setups.
Was a very long day yesterday. Only good thing was it was my off day.

I rather enjoy my industrial timers and dedicated panel, backed up by a nice whole house generator. It's primitive but pretty bullet proof.

Can you ping it or is all connectivity dead?

couldn't find an ip address to ping through my router.
I had it set. wasn't there and looked for any other address.
I figured if the display screen was dead there must be a real issue.
Plugged the new one in and display came right on.
Wonder if its worth it to send in for repair and sell. or just keep playing with it.

Could you locate it via the program to update firmware? Mine did something similiar then I got was given a file to totally reset everything in it. After applying it my display came back and was able to use my Apex for a bit.

If you send it back and it is a total loss they will sell you a new(newly refurbed) one for 249 I think it is. Weigh that against what used Apex units are going for.
