What heater

Personally I use the via aqua titanium heaters.

Regardless of what you use, make sure to get titanium. I've read accounts of glass ones exploding and leading to tank failure

+1 on titanium heaters, very reliable, mines has always kept my tank within 1 degrees of my setting. I have the Finnex brand that you can find off BulkReefSupply, that one that comes with a built in temperature sensor.

I haven't seen this model at any LFSs thoughs.

I've gone through multiple stealth and glass heaters through the time span I had my Finnex and my Finnex is still going strong.

eheim jaeger( previously ebo jaeger) heaters for me.. Always have had good luck with them I have one that's probably pushing 10 years old in my mixing bucket..best heater imo.

I really suggest only getting new heaters. They are sensitive and you have no way of knowing how they were treated.

IME glass & titanium heater are the best, stay away from plastic heaters like cobalt. Cons on glass is that they can explode and destroy your tank, it happened to me. Cons on titanium is they a prone to stray electricity. Glass heaters can have stray electricity too but I've experience it more with titanium.

I recommend titanium for large tanks and glass for smaller tanks (120g or smaller)

Cobalt neotherm are rock solid and in breakable eith digital thermostat I have 4 for my tank 2 are back up
Have you seen all the ones that are exploding? I think it's only the150- 200w ones with the most issues but it's literally exploding and killing the tank's and filling the houses with toxic smelling smoke.

Imo all heaters have a chance to do damage but that is one heater I would never use personally.

I have not seen or heard about that and I have the 200 watt and 100 watt ones do you have a link I can see to check if mine are affected ?

Also another thing to add, but I buy new heaters every year or anytime I swap/move tanks. If anything, I do it for peace of mind. Dropping $1-200 annually on heaters is much cheaper than a cleanup and/or lost livestock due to old heaters.

There is quite a few threads on rc and online.. Just type "Cobalt neo therm blew up" and see for yourself..

I would not feel comfortable with that in any of my tanks, no matter what the manufacturer says.. It's obviously an issue, tge Google hits will tell you that.

I have had the best luck with the Eheim jagers, and the Finnex titanium with digital controller.

Nothing beats the old green ebo jagers but they're impossible to find at this point
